About the Role
As Business Services Manager, you will independently manage a portfolio of approximately $1 million in business services, audit and advisory fees, supported by a Supervisor and two junior staff.
Reporting to the Director and Associate Director, you will take full ownership of workflow, client relationships and team performance while building the technical and leadership credentials that lead to equity.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Independently managing a portfolio of approximately $1 million in business services, audit and advisory fees across a diverse base of SMEs, family groups, trusts and high-net-worth individuals
- Acting as the primary point of contact and trusted adviser for your clients, building strong, long-term relationships
- Reviewing (and, where needed, preparing) financial statements, income tax returns, BAS/IAS, FBT and related compliance for companies, trusts, partnerships, SMSFs and individuals ensuring accuracy and adherence to Australian accounting and taxation standards
- Delivering proactive advisory work, tax planning, entity structuring and restructuring, Division 7A, cash flow forecasting, budgeting, benchmarking and management reporting that helps clients improve performance and make better decisions
- Ensuring all assignments are completed accurately, on time, and in line with the firm’s standards, and managing risk and re-prioritising where work is falling behind schedule
- Identifying and resolving technical issues as they arise, and knowing when to elevate to the Director
- Managing workflow, resourcing, WIP,
billing and invoicing across your team, and reporting outcomes and issues to the Director
- Acting as a leader and coach, mentoring your Supervisor and two juniors, building their technical and professional skills, and helping every member manage their workload and meet targets
- Spotting opportunities to add value for existing clients and supporting the firm’s growth, efficiency and continuous improvement, including the smart use of technology
What You Bring
- CA, CPA or equivalent qualification, with a strong grounding in Australian tax legislation and accounting standards
- Experience as an existing Manager or a high-performing Senior/Supervisor ready to step up within an Australian public practice
- A track record of independently managing a client portfolio and leading, reviewing and developing a team
- Solid technical experience across business services compliance for companies, trusts, partnerships, SMSFs and individuals
- Genuine advisory capability - comfortable with tax planning, structuring and helping clients with the “bigger picture” beyond compliance
- Confident, clear communication skills for building client relationships and leading a team (essential)
- Proficiency with practice software such as APS, Xero and MYOB
- Strong organisation and the ability to juggle multiple deadlines, WIP and client expectations
- Audit experience desirable with an understanding of Caseware , but not essential
- The drive and ambition to progress further
