About the role:

Join our Risk and Safety team in the newly created role of Insurance and Risk Officer. Our Safety and Risk team provides strategic leadership, advice and operational support to ensure Council effectively manages risk, protects the health, safety and wellbeing of employees and the community, and maintains organisational resilience.

In this role, you will be responsible for the day-to-day administration and coordination of Council's insurance portfolio including claims management, policy renewals, insurance data management and stakeholder liaison. The position supports the protection of Council's assets, liabilities, employees, volunteers and community activities by ensuring appropriate insurance arrangements are maintained and by contributing to the effective identification, management and reduction of insurable risks across the organisation.

A typical day might include:

- Supporting Council's insurance portfolio and annual renewal program
- Coordinating public liability, property and other insurance claims
- Liaising with insurers, brokers, legal representatives and claimants
- Monitoring claims trends and identify risk mitigation opportunities
- Providing insurance-related advice across the organisation guidance within established policies and procedures and referring complex matters to the Coordinator OHS, Risk and Assurance
- Supporting the implementation of Council's Risk Management Framework




- Monitoring and reporting on Insurance and Risk activities and performance.

What you will bring to the role:

- Certificate IV or Diploma of Insurance, Risk Management, Business Administration or a related discipline, and/or demonstrated relevant experience in a similar role
- Experience working within a local government, public sector, mutual insurance scheme or similarly regulated environment
- Demonstrated experience developing positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders and providing high-quality customer service
- Sound knowledge of insurance principles, policy coverage, claims management processes and liability assessment, including public liability, professional indemnity, property and motor vehicle insurance
- Proficiency in insurance/risk systems and advanced Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel and reporting tools.
