What You Will Be Doing

There is an opportunity in the Social Work, Music Therapy, & Art Therapy team at Peter Mac to welcome multiple Grade 2 Social Workers with both full time and part-time permanent positions available. As a Grade 2 Social Worker, you will be supported to continue growing your career in both the inpatient and ambulatory settings. You will receive regular supervision and additionally be supported to participate in seminars specifically designed to enhance your professional development, including education around and opportunities for supervision of Grade 1 social workers, and students. Grade 2 Social Workers work collaboratively as part of interdisciplinary teams to provide excellent, world-class cancer care through oncology- specific psychosocial assessments, clinical interventions, risk assessment and response, discharge planning, and community resource linkages. This role will also provide opportunities to be involved in research, quality improvement projects, and development of relationships with both internal and external stakeholders in the oncology field. Dedicated Grade 3 Senior Social Workers support Grade 2 Social Workers.

What You Will Need

Required

- A bachelor’s degree or Qualifying master’s in social work. Post graduate studies are highly regarded and may be eligible for a higher education allowance
- Eligibility for Australian Association of Social Work (AASW) membership
- Working with Children's Check

- Substantial postgraduate experience in a hospital or health care setting.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the application of social work theory, practice frameworks, and principles, in the context of the current health care environment
- Advanced people skills and relationships. These should incorporate qualities of excellent communication (verbal and written) and skills in collaboration, negotiation, and conflict management.
- Demonstrated ability to work in interdisciplinary teams, at an advanced level
- Well-developed individual, family work and crisis intervention and care planning skills
- The ability to identify, plan, implement, and evaluate new service strategies.
- Evidence of ongoing commitment to professional development
- Experience collaborating with people affected by cancer.
- Experience in providing supervision to students and/or less experienced staff members.
- Knowledge of, and ability to participate in quality improvement activities and develop strategies to market the work of the profession in the organisation, and beyond.

Key Accountabilities

1. Provide direct high quality clinical services to patients and families within Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre.

- Compliance with AASW practice guidelines and professional standards, organizational policies and procedures.
- Comprehensive range of social work services provided including: completion of psycho-social assessments and interventions plans to address access, community and organizational supports, adjustment to illness and other supportive care strategies relevant to the care of cancer patients and their families
- Discharge planning in accordance with professional guidelines.
- Patient and team satisfaction with service provided.
- Documentation in accordance with professional guidelines and organisational practices.
- Data collection in line with organisational requirements.
- Engagement and self-reporting in Qualified Supervision in accordance with AASW guidelines and organisational requirements

2. Provide professional supervision to social work students and less experienced staff. Provides teaching and education regarding oncology social work to internal and external stakeholders.

- Provide supervision as per professional standards and departmental requirements.
- Provides in-services for staff on role and psychosocial issues.
- Provides community consultation and education as required.

3. Contribute to the development, update and implementation of policies, procedures and protocols as required.

- Develop policies in consultation with Head, Social Work Department and within professional standards.

4. Participates in the design, delivering and evaluation of relevant programs, quality research and projects in the Social Work Department.

- Program development, quality assurance and practice based research activities in consultation with team, manager and professional supervisor.
- Undertake active roles in relevant working groups.
- Contribute to and coordinate departmental portfolios as required.
- Report on all activities within agreed timelines.
