The Hour Glass is one of the world's leading watch retailers, representing some of the most renowned watch brands globally. We are currently seeking an experienced Payroll Specialist to join our Head Office team in Sydney CBD on site 5 days a week.
This is an excellent opportunity for a payroll professional who thrives on accuracy, compliance, and continuous improvement. Working closely with both Finance and Human Resources, you will be responsible for the end-to-end payroll function across Australia and New Zealand while supporting broader HR and office administration activities.

Working closely with both Finance and Human Resources, you will be responsible for the end-to-end payroll function across Australia and Recent Zealand while supporting broader HR and office administration activities.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll Processing
- Manage the accurate and timely processing of fortnightly payroll across Australia and New Zealand.
- Process all payroll payments including salaries, commissions, incentives, allowances, termination payments, and redundancy payments.
- Validate and process timesheets and attendance records to ensure accurate calculation of hours worked, overtime, and variable payments.
- Prepare and submit payroll payment files and ensure payroll reconciles to approved payroll registers.
- Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies, overpayments, and underpayments in a timely manner.
- Maintain accurate employee records within payroll and HR systems.
- Administer all employee lifecycle changes including new starters, probation confirmations, promotions, transfers, salary reviews, contract renewals, and terminations.
- Manage employee leave accruals, balances, and entitlements in accordance with Australian and New Zealand legislation.
- Monitor leave liabilities and provide reporting to support financial planning and provisioning.
- Maintain payroll procedures, documentation, and standard operating procedures.
Key Responsibilities

Compliance & Legislative Requirements
- Ensure payroll compliance with relevant Contemporary Awards, Enterprise Agreements, employment contracts, and statutory obligations.
- Manage Single Touch Payroll (STP), superannuation contributions, payroll tax obligations, and end-of-financial-year reporting.
- Administer payroll tax requirements across multiple Australian jurisdictions.
- Manage WorkCover insurance administration, remuneration declarations, and annual reconciliations.
- Administer New Zealand payroll requirements including PAYE, KiwiSaver, Student Loan deductions, and ACC levies.
- Ensure compliance with Australian and New Zealand employment legislation and payroll regulations.
Reporting & Analysis
- Prepare monthly payroll reports and reconciliations for Finance.
- Reconcile payroll accounts, headcount reports, and cost centre allocations.
- Support annual budgeting processes through payroll analysis, salary forecasting, incentive accruals, and leave liability reporting.
- Prepare ad hoc payroll reports and analysis for management as required.
About You
- Minimum 4 years' experience in an end-to-end payroll position.
- Strong knowledge of Australian payroll legislation and compliance requirements.
- Exposure to New Zealand payroll is highly desirable.
- Experience interpreting Awards, employment contracts, and payroll legislation.
- Strong attention to detail and exceptional numerical accuracy.
- Advanced organisational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience with payroll and HRIS systems (MiHCM experience highly regarded).
- Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
