Barker College is seeking an experienced and highly capable Senior Payroll Officer to support the accurate, compliant and timely delivery of payroll for our permanent, temporary and casual employees.
Reporting to the Payroll Manager, this role provides specialist payroll expertise across complex payroll matters, compliance, reconciliations, reporting and employee support. Working closely alongside another Senior Payroll Officer, you will play a key role in maintaining operational continuity, accuracy and consistency across payroll services.

As a Senior Payroll Officer, you will be responsible for supporting the end-to-end processing of Barker College's fortnightly payroll while ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, CMEA Awards and employment obligations.
You will work collaboratively with the Payroll Manager and fellow Senior Payroll Officer to oversee day-to-day payroll operations, manage complex payroll matters and contribute to continuous process improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll Processing & Administration
Support the preparation, validation and processing of Barker College's fortnightly payroll.
Maintain employee payroll records, including new starters, contract variations, salary changes and employee master data.
Process timesheets, payroll adjustments and manual payroll transactions.
Calculate and process termination payments, annual leave, long service leave and redundancy entitlements.
Prepare payroll reports and supporting documentation.
Manage payroll record keeping and documentation requirements.
Provide expert interpretation of the CMEA, applicable Modern Awards and employment conditions.
Calculate complex payroll transactions, including leave entitlements, salary progression, allowances and casual penalties.
Ensure compliance with taxation, superannuation, Fair Work and employment legislation.
Assist with payroll audits,
compliance reviews and reporting obligations.

ABOUT YOU
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
Minimum five years' payroll experience, including experience in a senior payroll role.
CMEA experience is highly regarded
Demonstrated expertise in end-to-end payroll processing and payroll controls.
Strong knowledge of Australian payroll legislation, PAYG withholding, superannuation and employment obligations.
Experience interpreting Awards, Enterprise Agreements and employment conditions.
Strong reconciliation, analytical and problem-solving skills.
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including payroll reporting and analysis.
Experience with payroll, HRIS and time and attendance systems.
