Brisbane Boys' College is an established GPS day and boarding school founded in 1902, dedicated to developing boys into worthy leaders and good citizens. Located just four kilometres from Brisbane's centre, we educate students from Prep to Year 12.

About the Role

This role is part of a small support focused team, delivering technology and infrastructure support services to all members of the College community. The Systems Engineer will provide support for the College’s critical systems, servers and network infrastructure. In addition to being an escalation point for support and service requests, the appointee will, at the direction of the IT Infrastructure Architect and Director of Technology Services participate and assist in the delivery of technology projects.

Key Responsibilities

As part of the standard workload of the Systems Engineer, the appointee will be expected to perform the following functions:

- First and foremost, be a leading member of the Technology Services Team, providing response and resolution to escalated support incidents and service requests.
- Be a mentor to junior technology services staff, providing guidance on infrastructure support and first level support matters.
- Participate as a collaborative member of the Technology Services team to ensure that high-quality client focused services are provided. This includes supporting induction and skill development of new staff to the team and wider College community.
- Be available to participate in scheduled “outside of normal hours work” as required for project and operational purposes.
- Be accountable for complying with health and safety policies, procedures, hazard reporting and safe work practices, particularly in relation to information systems design and implementation.
- Revising and streamlining systems by identifying and rectifying short falls in processes and documentation.

Infrastructure and Application Support

Server (physical and virtual) infrastructure support – NUTANIX.





Switched and wireless network configuration and maintenance – Aruba and Fortinet.

Full suite of Microsoft Server and SaaS Services including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, File Sharing Services, Exchange, SharePoint, Teams (SDS), Intune, Entra.

Network Peripheral services including:

- Printing Services – PaperCut / Canon.
- Electronic Door Locks – SALTO.
- IP Security Cameras – VERKADA.

Backup restoration requests and health checking / maintenance services – HYCU.

Education application administration:

- School Management System – TASS, The Alpha School System.
- Learning management – Schoolbox
- Boarding Management system – Reach
- Co-curricular Management. – Clipboard
- Student Medical and Consent – Consent2Go.

Other business systems/applications:

- Payroll and HR Systems – Rockfast / Human Force
- Event Management System – EventsAir

Skills and Capabilities

A proven focus on customer service and a commitment to ensuring high levels of client satisfaction in the provisioning of technology services.

A proven desire to be a collaborative, friendly member of a wider team.

Proven capability to manage support escalations, coordinate service provisions, and service requests with 3rd party vendors and support agents.

A demonstrated capability to deliver IT services with a strong emphasis on the customer experience and ensuring a high level of satisfaction.

Analytical skills to undertake troubleshooting and problem resolution to meet the business needs of the College and achieve excellence in customer service.

A demonstrated capability to interpret technical information and communicate this effectively to management, other IT professionals and clients in a diverse organisation.





A strong desire and ability to keep abreast of the latest technological trends and undertake training in new technologies as required.

Qualifications and Experience

Significant experience and/or certification in working with the technical and professional concepts of service desk operation, desktop management and asset management.

Knowledge and experience in the support of enterprise class infrastructure services, in a medium to large scale environment.

A strong understanding of core Microsoft stack technologies such as Active Directory Domain Services, Office 365 services, Exchange, and Intune.

A moderate to strong understanding of NUTANIX virtualization technologies.

A moderate to robust understanding of key networking requirements such as DNS Services, DHCP Services, RADIUS Authentication, Network Topologies, Security and TCP/IP protocols.

Experience or knowledge in cybersecurity is advantageous. FortiGate, FortiSASE, Application Control (WDAC, ThreatLocker, AirLock), Microsoft Purview, and Microsoft Privilege Identity Management.

A thorough understanding of SQL Server queries, stored procedures and scheduled tasks.
