Karuna's Clinical Nurses deliver high-quality, evidence-based hospice and palliative care that aligns with Karuna's values and philosophy of compassionate, person-centred care. The role provides holistic support to people living with a life-limiting illness and those important to them, recognising their physical, emotional, social, cultural and spiritual needs. Through advanced clinical practice, interdisciplinary collaboration and clinical leadership, the Clinical Nurse enables personalised care that reflects each person's goals, preferences and priorities, promoting dignity, comfort and quality of life.

Selection Criteria:

Demonstrated clinical proficiency in holistic palliative care assessment and symptom management (pharmacological and non-pharmacological).

Ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively within scope of advanced nursing practice.

High-level interpersonal and communication skills, with strengths in conflict resolution and multidisciplinary collaboration.

Demonstrated experience working effectively within interdisciplinary care teams.

Proficient in business and clinical information systems.

Ability to identify clinical risk, deliver safe care, and contribute to continuous quality improvement.

Position Description:

Provide evidence-based, best-practice hospice and palliative care in alignment with Karuna values, relevant legislation and NMBA standards.

Deliver comprehensive assessment, care planning,



symptom management and clinical review in clients' homes, in collaboration with Karuna's interdisciplinary team and external providers.

Respond effectively to changing client needs and clinical deterioration through timely assessment, clinical decision-making and intervention.

Practice autonomously while contributing to coordinated, person-centred care across the client's care network.

Promote client and caregiver autonomy, dignity and informed decision-making

Advocate for clients and families to ensure care aligns with their goals, preferences and values.

Demonstrate flexibility and responsiveness in managing a dynamic workload and changing priorities to meet client and service needs.

Maintain accurate, timely and skilled clinical documentation.

Clinical Leadership:

Lead clinical assessment, care planning, and evaluation at an advanced practice level.

Mentor and model professional conduct for RNs, students, team members, and visiting health professionals in collaboration with the Clinical Nurse Consultant and the Director of Community Services.

Represent Karuna in professional forums and contribute to quality improvement initiatives.

Assist with policy and procedure development, review, and compliance to meet accreditation and legislative requirements.

Mandatory Requirements:

Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse with minimum three years full-time advanced practice experience in palliative care.

Postgraduate qualifications in Palliative Care (or working towards them) desirable.

Valid Class C Queensland Driver’s Licence.

On-Call Requirement

Participation in the clinical on-call roster is mandatory as part of Karuna’s 24/7 client care model.

Inherent Requirements and Safety:

This role includes inherent physical and safety requirements associated with community-based nursing, including manual handling, autonomous work, and fatigue management. Staff are expected to work within their capabilities, follow WHS procedures, and escape or decline unsafe tasks. Reasonable adjustments will be considered to support safe practice.
