About the Role
Are you an experienced operations, events,
tourism or hospitality leader looking for a role with genuine variety, autonomy and impact?
Reporting to the OBG General Manager, you'll lead the day-to-day operations of the Old Beechworth Gaol, overseeing visitor services, tours, venue hire, events and workforce management. You'll also identify opportunities to increase venue utilisation, enhance visitor experiences and strengthen commercial performance.
Working closely with the ACRE team, you'll support the planning and delivery of a diverse events program, including conferences, workshops, stakeholder forums, community gatherings and special events.
This is a rare opportunity to combine operational leadership, event delivery, tourism, people management and community impact in one dynamic role.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the day-to-day operations of the Old Beechworth Gaol, Visitor Reception Centre, and tour experiences.
- Plan, coordinate and deliver venue hire activities, conferences, exhibitions, corporate functions and community events.
- Oversee event logistics including scheduling, venues, catering, suppliers, audiovisual requirements, accommodation and transport.
- Drive exceptional visitor, client and event experiences.
- Manage and support staff, contractors, volunteers and tour guides.
- Oversee workforce planning, rostering and resource allocation.
- Monitor budgets, revenue, KPIs and operational performance.
- Build strong relationships with clients, tourism operators, community groups,
sponsors, suppliers and key stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with WHS, food safety, liquor licensing and event regulations.
- Identify opportunities to improve venue utilisation, grow revenue and strengthen community impact.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives across venue and event operations.
About You
We're looking for a hands-on leader who can balance strategic thinking with operational delivery. You will bring:
- Experience in venue, event, tourism, hospitality or operations management.
- Demonstrated success planning and delivering conferences, functions, exhibitions, community events or venue hire activities.
- Strong leadership experience, including managing staff, volunteers or contractors.
- Experience in budgeting, financial management, reporting and operational planning.
- Exceptional organisational and project management skills.
- Strong stakeholder engagement, negotiation and relationship-building capabilities.
- A customer-focused approach with a passion for creating outstanding visitor and event experiences.
- Robust problem-solving skills and the ability to perform under pressure.
- Experience managing compliance, risk and operational standards.
- A proactive mindset and commitment to continuous improvement.
Experience within a heritage, tourism, cultural, community or social enterprise environment will be highly regarded.
