The State Operations Manager provides operational management and in conjunction with the Executive Committee, provides leadership for Pony Club Queensland. The SOM is responsible for implementing the organisation's strategic plan, supporting member clubs and zones, fostering stakeholder relationships, ensuring financial sustainability, supporting participation growth, and advancing horse welfare, education, and community engagement statewide. The SOM acts as the key link between the Executive Committee, member organisations, staff, sponsors, government agencies, and the broader equestrian sector.

Key responsibilities

- Implement PCQ's strategic objectives and drive growth in membership, participation, and program engagement
- Identify opportunities for innovation, partnerships, and organisational improvement
- Provide strategic advice and recommendations to the Executive Committee
- Support the Executive Committee in fulfilling its governance obligations and ensure compliance with relevant legislation, company requirements, and policies
- Oversee day-to-day operations of the state office and lead, develop, and manage staff to achieve organisational goals
- Develop and manage annual budgets and financial plans in conjunction with the Treasurer
- Monitor financial performance and cash flow, and identify and secure new revenue opportunities
- Build strong relationships with state Pony Club associations and represent PCQ with government, sporting organisations, industry bodies, and community stakeholders




- Develop and oversee state communication and member engagement initiatives
- Promote best-practice horse welfare standards and support policies and education initiatives that improve equine welfare outcomes

About you

- Demonstrated leadership experience in a sporting, not-for-profit, membership-based, or community organisation
- Proven ability to develop and execute strategic plans
- Strong financial management and budgeting skills
- Experience working with or reporting to an Executive Committee
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and relationship management capabilities
- Outstanding communication, presentation, and advocacy skills
- Ability to manage organisational change and growth
- Understanding of governance, risk management, and compliance requirements
- Must be the holder of a current Queensland Blue Card
- Experience within the equestrian, sporting, recreation, or volunteer sector (desirable)
- On-site, free parking provided

About us

Pony Club Queensland (PCQ) is a volunteer based, incorporated association. It is the State Governing Body for pony clubs in Queensland, who represent several thousand members from around 200 clubs and zones statewide. PCQ promotes participation in equestrian activities, education, horse welfare, coaching excellence, and youth development through our clubs, zones and regions across the state.
