Title: Advisor - Charitable Fundraising and Not for Profits
Grade: Clerk Grade 7/8, $116,981 - $129,492 (base plus employer superannuation)
Temporary role, up to June 2028
Location: NSW Fair Trading office locations
Agency: NSW Fair Trading

Are you passionate about supporting charities and not-for-profit organisations while ensuring legislative compliance and strong regulatory outcomes?
We are looking for a charitable fundraising subject matter expert who will lead the effective administration and regulation of charitable fundraising entities across New South Wales.

Key responsibilities

- Assess complex charitable fundraising and not-for-profit matters and make evidence-based recommendations or determinations in accordance with legislation, policy, delegations and procedural fairness requirements.
- Provide authoritative, timely and practical advice on complex or sensitive regulatory matters, emerging issues and legislative requirements relating to the sector.
- Manage complex enquiries, complaints and escalated matters, identifying regulatory risks, determining appropriate action and communicating clear reasons for decisions.
- Lead and deliver regulatory projects and initiatives, including planning, consultation, risk and issue management, implementation, evaluation and reporting.
- Analyse operational data, intelligence, sector trends and stakeholder feedback to identify systemic issues, emerging risks and opportunities to improve regulatory outcomes.
- Develop and maintain procedures, templates, briefs, reports and education materials that support consistent decision‑making and sector compliance.
- Provide technical guidance, quality assurance, coaching and mentoring to team members,



and promote consistent application of legislation, policy and procedures.
- Build and maintain productive relationships with charities, not-for-profit organisations, sector representatives and State and Commonwealth agencies to support information sharing, coordinated action and consistent regulatory practice.
- Lead or support risk‑based compliance and regulatory activities, including referrals to and collaboration with investigation, intelligence and enforcement teams where required.
- Exercise sound judgement, manage competing priorities and escalated significant legal, operational or reputational risks with explicit options and recommendations.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have:

- Experience interpreting and applying legislation, policy or regulatory frameworks, preferably within the charities or not-for-profit sector.
- Experience within government, regulatory, compliance, legal, governance or investigations environments.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare correspondence, external communications, briefs, reports, submissions and recommendations.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, project management and systems skills.
- Proven ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively in a fast‑paced workplace.
- Well-developed stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills.
