Financial Capability & Emergency Relief Worker

The Financial Capability & Emergency Relief Worker supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals and families to strengthen financial stability, build everyday money management skills, and respond to immediate financial hardship through the Emergency Relief Funding (ERF).The role is delivered through Waltja’s Financial Wellbeing Hub and focuses on culturally protected, practical, and trauma-informed support for Aboriginal clients who may experience financial stress related to income insecurity, housing pressure, utilities hardship, family responsibilities, and community obligations.

The position is primarily based in Alice Springs and includes trips to remote communities to support outreach activities as required under the program delivery.

The primary client group for this role is Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals and families from Central Australia, including those living in Alice Springs and those visiting town from remote communities. Service delivery recognises cultural obligations, collective decision-making, and the broader social context affecting financial wellbeing.

Selection Criteria

Essential:

- Relevant qualification or demonstrated experience in community services, financial capability, or emergency relief.
- Experience supporting Aboriginal individuals or families in a community setting.
- Strong understanding of financial hardship and crisis support.
- Ability to explain financial concepts clearly using plain language.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Current NT Driver’s Licence.
- Ochre Card and National Police Check (or willingness to obtain).

Desirable:

- Experience delivering emergency relief or crisis support services.
- Experience working in Aboriginal community-controlled organisations.
- Knowledge of ERF, NILS, or financial inclusion programs.
