Full time Optical Assistant- Specsavers Merrylands

Specsavers Merrylands is seeking a Full time Optical Assistant to join our team in Merrylands, Sydney, NSW. This is a full-time position offering an exciting opportunity to work in the optical retail sector, providing outstanding customer service and supporting our optical dispensing operations. As an Optical Assistant, you will be the backbone of our store, ensuring our customers receive exceptional service while they select and fit their eyewear. This role is vital to maintaining our reputation for quality customer care and operational excellence.

What you'll be doing

- Greeting customers warmly and providing initial assistance in selecting frames and lenses that meet their optical requirements
- Processing customer transactions accurately using point-of-sale systems and handling cash, card and digital payments
- Assisting qualified dispensing opticians with frame fitting and lens adjustment to ensure customer comfort and satisfaction
- Maintaining detailed customer records and managing appointment scheduling
- Stocking shelves, organising inventory and ensuring the store display remains visually appealing and well-organised
- Cleaning and maintaining optical equipment and frames to ensure they meet hygiene and presentation standards
- Processing online orders and managing customer collections or dispatch
- Supporting the team with general administrative tasks, including answering telephone enquiries
- Promoting Specsavers products and services, including spectacles, contact lenses and eye care solutions
- Maintaining knowledge of current promotions, pricing and product ranges to provide informed recommendations

What we're looking for

- Previous retail experience, ideally in optical retail or a customer-facing environment
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage confidently with customers and colleagues




- Excellent organisational abilities and attention to detail when processing transactions and managing inventory
- A genuine passion for delivering outstanding customer service and creating positive shopping experiences
- Reliability and punctuality, with the ability to work flexibly including weekends and public holidays as required
- Proficiency with computerised point-of-sale systems and basic IT skills
- The ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team
- Physical capability to stand for extended periods and lift moderate weights safely
- A commitment to health and safety in the workplace
- Desirable: Previous experience in optical dispensing or knowledge of eyewear, lenses and prescriptions
