APG Workforce is currently seeking a motivated and reliable Trainee Materials Officer to join a government department based in Warwick, QLD .

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to develop practical experience in materials testing and road transport infrastructure. Working alongside experienced staff, you will undertake a combination of laboratory and field-based activities involving the sampling and testing of soil, aggregate, concrete, bitumen and asphalt.

About the Role

As a Trainee Materials Officer, you will receive supervision and on-the-job training while assisting with materials testing, pavement investigations and site sampling activities.

Key responsibilities include:

- Perform materials testing procedures under supervision and in accordance with departmental standards, specifications, policies and procedures
- Undertake sampling and testing of soil, aggregate, concrete, bitumen and asphalt
- Assist with investigation and research projects using project management principles
- Assist with the analysis of test data, ensuring accurate and timely results
- Operate testing equipment, apparatus and reagents in accordance with documented procedures
- Ensure PPE and other safety equipment is correctly used at all times
- Comply with WH&S; requirements, departmental policies, legislation and governance obligations
- Assist experienced staff with pavement investigations and site sampling exercises
- Travel to various locations throughout the region to undertake field work
- Work across both indoor laboratory and outdoor field environments
- Undertake regular physical duties including shovelling, lifting samples and equipment up to 25kg and walking across uneven or adverse terrain

About You To be considered for this opportunity, you will have:

- Current Class C Driver Licence – mandatory
- Ability to safely undertake manual handling and lift samples/equipment weighing up to 25kg
- Ability and willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Willingness to undertake regional travel and field work
- Ability to work in isolated locations where mobile phone coverage may be limited
- Good attention to detail and ability to follow established procedures
- Sound numeracy skills
- Basic computer skills
- A strong commitment to workplace health and safety
- A positive attitude and willingness to learn

Travel & Field Work

The position involves travelling with experienced staff to undertake pavement investigations and site sampling exercises at various locations throughout the region.

At times, you may be required to work in isolated locations with limited or no mobile phone coverage for periods of up to five days . Appropriate levels of contact will be maintained between employees and the home base.
TMR will cover required work-related travel costs, including accommodation, meals and incidentals.

Physical Requirements This is a hands‑on position involving regular and repeated physical activity, including manual handling, lifting up to 25kg, bending, shovelling and extended periods of standing and walking .
