Uniting Church in Australia, Synod of NSW & ACT – Sydney CBD NSW

We are looking for a detail-oriented and proactive Accounts Officer to join the National Assembly finance team on a permanent full-time basis. This role supports the faithful stewardship of the Assembly’s financial resources through accurate, timely and efficient financial operations.

Reporting to the Finance Manager, you will manage accounts payable and receivable, credit cards and fixed assets, maintain accurate financial records and support strong financial controls. You will also support the Accountant and Finance Manager, provide responsive service to stakeholders across the Assembly and its related entities, and act as delegate for the Accountant when required.

Key Responsibilities

- Manage Accounts Payable, including data entry, supplier statement reconciliations, weekly payment runs and AP ageing reports.
- Ensure invoices are accurately processed, coded, supported and approved in line with financial delegations and separation of duties requirements.
- Initiate domestic and overseas payments, including recurring payments through relevant banking and payment platforms.
- Manage Accounts Receivable, including invoicing, receipting, recharging, account maintenance, reconciliations and follow-up of outstanding debts.
- Coordinate debtor communications with relevant agencies and ensure receipts and credits are correctly allocated.
- Complete month-end checklist tasks by the required dates and reconcile AP and AR reports to the general ledger.
- Maintain the Fixed Asset Register, including asset additions, disposals, revaluations and monthly depreciation entries.
- Assist with bank reconciliations and cashflow monitoring.
- Oversee the credit card expense management system, monitor approvals and reconcile monthly activity.




- Support the Accountant, Finance Manager and Head of Finance - UnitingWorld with financial services, reporting and operational compliance.
- Act as delegate for the Accountant when required to support continuity of financial operations and reporting obligations.
- Provide high-quality service and support to internal and external stakeholders.

About You

- Demonstrated experience in a finance role across accounts payable, accounts receivable and reconciliations.
- Strong attention to detail, with a high level of accuracy and the ability to meet deadlines.
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to resolving issues.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build effective stakeholder relationships.
- High-level proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications.
- Demonstrated discretion and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
- A willingness to support the ethos, mission and values of the Uniting Church in Australia.

Desirable but not essential:

- Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
- Experience administering credit cards and maintaining fixed asset records.
- Experience using Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central or a similar ERP system.
- Experience working within a multi-entity or not-for-profit setting.
