About the role

Location: Chipping Norton (moving to a new facility in Smeaton Grange within 3-4 months)

The Manual Machinist/Fitter is responsible for manufacturing, modifying and repairing precision components using conventional machining equipment including centre lathes and milling machines. Working from engineering drawings and specifications, you will produce high-quality components for world-leading confectionery manufacturing equipment while maintaining exceptional standards of workmanship, quality and safety.

This role suits a tradesperson who enjoys problem solving, takes pride in precision workmanship and thrives in a low-volume, high-mix manufacturing environment.

Key responsibilities

Read and understand mechanical and workshop drawings, work orders and production schedules to determine product or job instructions and specifications

Set up and operate conventional centre lathes, milling machines and associated workshop equipment to manufacture precision components.

Determine dimensions by logic or by measuring samples

Perform quality work checks to ensure the product meets quality standards

Identify product defects and complete appropriate documentation when defects are identified

Modify, repair and re-machine components in accordance with engineering specifications and design changes.





Maintain safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations

Identify opportunities to improve machining methods, setup efficiency and product quality.

Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the workshop.

About you

Trade qualification in Fitting & Machining, Mechanical Engineering, Toolmaking or a related trade discipline.

Proven experience operating conventional lathes, milling machines and workshop machinery within a manufacturing or engineering environment

Experience working in a low-volume, high-mix manufacturing environment where components and setups vary regularly.

Demonstrated commitment to Safety First in the workplace and working toward Zero Harm

Ability to read and follow equipment schematics, logic diagrams and engineering drawings

Demonstrated ability to take initiative in problem solving and in exercising judgement

A flexible, adaptive, and agile mindset with a proven ability to work autonomously or in a team environment

Strong attention to detail with the ability to consistently achieve precise tolerances and quality standards.

Strong organisational and time management skills

Commitment to continuous learning and developing machining capabilities
