About The Role

The position of Youth Access Worker provides a welcoming first point of contact for young people and their family seeking support from headspace Bega. You will work with young people aged 12 to 25 to understand their needs, identify appropriate supports and help them navigate option. The role involves undertaking assessments, triage and making referrals, in addition to early intervention counselling and support services to young people who have or may be at risk of developing a mental health and/or substance use disorder or have economic and social recovery needs.

This is a part time parental leave backfill opportunity offered on a fixed-term basis until 20 July 2027.

Skills & Experience

- Qualifications in a relevant field or working towards e.g., youth work, social work, mental health nursing, psychology, peer work, occupational therapy, counselling, or other related qualifications or demonstrated experience in a similar role.
- Demonstrated understanding of the health and wellbeing needs of young people with mental health and/or substance use problems including an ability to engage and communicate effectively with young people.
- Demonstrated ability to undertake assessment and screening of young people and their families to determine care needs and assist to access necessary services.
- Experience in providing counselling services to young people.

The multidisciplinary team at headspace Bega work to improve health, social, vocational and educational outcomes for young people. Grand Pacific Health is the lead agency of headspace Bega. We are a not-for-profit, primary health care organisation providing locally-tailored, high quality physical and mental health services across NSW and the ACT.
