An experienced veterinary nurse with a strong interest in surgery and anaesthesia is sought for a part‑time surgical nursing role in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs. Working 10 hours each Monday, this position offers the chance to assist experienced specialist surgeons with dedicated surgical lists in a modern, rapidly growing veterinary hospital.

The successful applicant will work closely with specialist surgeons during advanced surgical procedures, with responsibilities including preparing patients, equipment and theatres, monitoring anaesthesia, providing perioperative nursing care and maintaining high standards of surgical asepsis and infection control. The role also involves assisting with surgical admissions and client communication.

When specialist surgical cases are not scheduled, the nurse will work alongside the general practice team, assisting with routine procedures, anaesthesia, patient care and hospitalised patients. This provides a varied working day while maintaining a strong focus on high-quality clinical nursing.

This position would suit an experienced nurse with excellent clinical skills who is confident monitoring complex general anaesthetics and comfortable working in a busy surgical environment. Applicants should hold a Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing, Bachelor of Veterinary Nursing or Bachelor of Veterinary Technology and have at least three years’ veterinary nursing experience, including previous experience in the surgical department of a referral practice. Solid communication and customer service skills, a calm and professional approach, and a positive, proactive and team‑focused attitude are also important. Experience with EzyVet is preferred but not essential. Please note that this position is not suitable for junior veterinary nurses.

The role is currently available on Mondays only, totalling 10 hours per week. Additional hours may become available for the right applicant as the hospital’s services continue to grow. Remuneration is above standard rates in the profession.
