VSON is looking for an Ophthalmic Technician or experienced Optical Assistant/Dispenser to join our friendly and supportive clinical team.

Working alongside ophthalmologists and optometrists, you'll perform ophthalmic diagnostic testing, prepare patients for consultations and procedures, and play an important role in providing an exceptional patient experience.

Purpose of the Role

To support the delivery of high-quality specialist eye care through accurate ophthalmic testing, patient preparation and clinical support, while working closely with our ophthalmologists, optometrists and wider clinical team to provide an exceptional patient experience.

Key Responsibilities

- Welcome patients and help create a professional, comfortable and positive clinic experience.





- Perform ophthalmic pre-testing and diagnostic testing, including patient history, visual acuity and intraocular pressure measurements.

- Operate specialised ophthalmic diagnostic and imaging equipment.

- Prepare patients and clinical rooms for consultations, diagnostic testing and procedures.

- Accurately document patient information and clinical measurements in our electronic medical record system.

- Work alongside ophthalmologists, optometrists and the clinical team to support specialist clinics and patient care.

- Assist with ophthalmic procedures and administer eye drops under appropriate clinical direction.

- Maintain clean, organised and appropriately stocked clinical rooms and equipment.

- Follow practice protocols for infection control, equipment cleaning and sterilisation of clinical instruments.

- Support the smooth and efficient flow of patients throughout the clinic.

- Provide occasional medical reception and administrative support as part of supporting the wider team.

About You

We are looking for someone with previous experience in an ophthalmology or optometry environment who enjoys working directly with patients and is keen to continue developing their clinical and technical skills.

Previous experience as an Ophthalmic Technician is highly desirable, andwe also welcome experienced Optical Assistants or Optical Dispensers with hands‑on pre‑testing experience.

We are looking for someone who:

- Has experience within ophthalmology, optometry or a similar eye‑care environment.

- Has hands‑on experience with ophthalmic testing such as OCT, intraocular pressure measurements, visual acuity, autorefractors or similar diagnostic equipment.





- Enjoys working directly with patients and takes pride in providing exceptional care and service.

- Is technically minded and confident learning new ophthalmic equipment and clinical systems.

- Has strong attention to detail and understands the importance of accurate clinical documentation.

- Is reliable, organised and comfortable working in a busy clinical environment.

- Has a warm, professional approach and works well as part of a collaborative team.

- Is enthusiastic about continuing to develop their clinical and technical skills.

- Has full working rights in Australia.

Location & Availability

This position is initially 3–4 days per week , with the potential to increase to full time hours for the right candidate.

The role is primarily based at VSON in Fortitude Valley, with availability required on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays , plus an additional day depending on clinic requirements and availability.

Some later shifts and approximately one Saturday per month will also be required.

Remuneration

Remuneration will be commensurate with the successful candidate's experience and skills.
