Laboratory Analyst Level III (Chemistry Inorganics)

Fixed-term, full-time contract from September 2026 to March 2026.

Reporting to the Chemistry Inorganics Team Leader, the incumbent is responsible for performing routine food testing, conducting a broad range of enzymatic and instrumental tests including testing the physical properties of samples. Tasks are undertaken using manual, semi-automated, and fully automated techniques. Where testing is automated, analysts are responsible for analysing data and reporting results.

Key responsibilities

Work Health & Safety

- Work safely at all times in accordance with laboratory safety procedures and regulatory requirements.

Quality

- Apply the laboratory quality management system and participate in continuous improvement processes.
- Use laboratory application and information management software effectively.
- Perform troubleshooting of analytical methods and equipment.

Teamwork

- Conduct a range of routine analytical tests.
- Organise and maintain work areas to ensure efficiency and compliance.

Technical

- Process, interpret, and report analytical data accurately.
- Define and resolve problems of limited complexity, where information may be less obvious but can be determined through direct reasoning.
- Conduct various tests on physical properties of samples.
- Conduct various enzymatic tests.
- Perform tests using wet chemistry techniques.
- Preparation of samples for instrumental tests.

- Preparation and routine testing skills at this level may include:
- Filtration, digestion, and extraction techniques
- Preparation of standard solutions
- Calibration of instruments and equipment
- Operation of analytical instruments

- Ability to operate and perform testing using the following instruments:




- Spectrometer (Ultraviolet/Visible (UV/VIS)
- Plate reader (ELISA)
- Auto-titrator
- Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP-OES and MS)
- Microwave Digestion Unit

Customer Focus

- Report results in a timely manner.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the principles and methodologies underlying the tests conducted.
- Perform other duties as directed.

About you

Tertiary qualification in Scientific discipline (essential).

Minimum of 2 years of experience in a laboratory role (Preferred).

Understanding of NATA requirements, with experience working to GLP standards.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Quality-focused with robust attention to detail skills, and the ability to perform in fast-paced environment.

Ability to prioritise workload effectively to meet daily deadlines.

Experience using a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
