General Manager – Heavy Vehicle Transport

Location: Penrith, NSW
Salary Package: $185,000 + Superannuation

The Opportunity

Our client is a well established and growing business within the Heavy Vehicle Transport industry, employing approximately 30 staff across its operations.

We are seeking an experienced and commercially driven General Manager to take responsibility for the day to day management and overall performance of the business. This is a hands on senior leadership position suited to someone who enjoys being involved across operations, people, customers, safety and business development.

Reporting directly to the business owners, you will have the opportunity to make a genuine impact on the continued growth and success of the organisation.

About the Role

As General Manager, you will take ownership of the operational and commercial performance of the business, including:

- Managing the day to day operations of the business and approximately 30 employees.
- Taking responsibility for Profit & Loss, budgets, financial performance and commercial outcomes .
- Leading and developing a high performing team and creating a strong culture of accountability.
- Ensuring the highest standards of Work Health & Safety, compliance and risk management .
- Maintaining and strengthening relationships with key clients and stakeholders.
- Developing new business opportunities and identifying areas for growth.
- Preparing and managing tenders and commercial proposals , including opportunities with government departments.
- Building strong relationships with high end corporate clients and NSW Government departments .
- Reviewing operational efficiencies, processes and systems to continually improve the business.
- Managing fleet, resources and operational requirements to ensure the business delivers safely, efficiently and profitably.




- Working closely with the owners to develop and implement the company's strategic direction.
- Representing the company professionally in the marketplace and maintaining its strong reputation.

About You

We are looking for a proven senior manager with experience in transport, logistics, heavy vehicles, fleet or a closely related industry .

You will be a commercially astute leader who understands that successful operations require a balance of people, safety, customer service and profitability .

You will ideally have:

- Demonstrated experience in a General Manager, Operations Manager or senior leadership position.
- Strong commercial and financial acumen, including P&L; management.
- Experience managing teams and operational environments.
- A strong understanding of Work Health & Safety and compliance within a transport or heavy vehicle environment.
- Proven business development and client relationship management skills.
- Experience preparing or responding to tenders , preferably including government tenders.
- The confidence and professionalism to negotiate and communicate with senior executives, major clients and government stakeholders.
- Strong leadership, communication and negotiation skills.
- Ideally having completed a degree in Management/Financial Management or similar.
- A strategic mindset combined with the ability to manage the detail of day to day operations.
