Lead, grow and shape an established Australian and New Zealand manufacturing group
Gold Coast based | $180,000 to $200,000 plus superannuation | Performance incentive | Potential long-term equity pathway
This is a rare opportunity to take the operational lead of a profitable, founder-led business group entering its next significant stage of growth.
The group comprises Nook Australia, Flexicube New Zealand and Rover Off Grid across Australia and New Zealand. We design, manufacture and deliver innovative prefabricated homes, modular buildings and off-grid accommodation solutions.
Over the past five years, the founders have built the group to approximately $8 million in annual revenue, established operations across Australia and New Zealand, developed a strong forward order book and created brands with considerable further growth potential.
The next stage requires an experienced General Manager who can take ownership of the whole business, continue its current growth trajectory and build the leadership, systems and capability required for sustainable scale.
This is not a turnaround role. It is an opportunity to step into a strong and profitable business, work closely with committed owners and progressively assume responsibility for leading the group.
Group General Manager
As Group General Manager, you will be accountable for the performance of the business across Australia and Recent Zealand.
Your mandate will be to:
- Continue the group’s growth trajectory, with an initial objective of growing annual revenue from approximately $8 million toward $10 million.
- Maintain or improve profitability while ensuring growth does not compromise quality, delivery performance, customer experience or organisational culture.
- Take ownership of the group’s financial, operational, commercial and people performance.
- Build a capable management structure that reduces reliance on the founders.
- Strengthen production planning, delivery reliability, capacity management and accountability.
- Develop larger commercial, institutional and government relationships and contract opportunities.
- Protect and strengthen the reputation of each group brand.
- Build a workplace where strong people want to work, expectations are clear and high performance is recognised and supported.
- Address persistent underperformance fairly and promptly so that strong performers are not frustrated or held back by tolerated poor performance.
- Establish the systems,
reporting and management disciplines required to support the next stage of growth.
The founders intend to transition away from daily operational involvement and focus on strategy, governance and major business decisions. Authority will increase progressively as the successful candidate demonstrates sound judgement, commercial discipline and the ability to deliver results.
This role offers the opportunity to materially shape the future of the group, not simply inherit and maintain an established corporate structure.
What success looks like
During the first 12 months, the successful candidate will be expected to:
- Develop and implement the group’s comprehensive operating budget, forecast and management reporting framework.
- Establish a clear operating plan supporting current approximate 25% revenue growth.
- Maintain or improve the agreed normalised EBITDA margin after accounting for the employment costs of the General Manager and permanent Operations Manager.
- Improve production visibility, scheduling, quality control and delivery performance.
- Recruit and establish a permanent Operations Manager capable of overseeing the complete operational pathway.
- Foster a high-performance organisational culture with clear standards, meaningful accountability and strong employee retention.
- Reduce routine owner involvement to an agreed governance and strategic oversight role.
- Establish a credible strategy and qualified pipeline for government and major-contract opportunities.
- Demonstrate that the group can operate effectively without the founders’ daily presence.
About you
You will be a proven whole-of-business leader who has already carried meaningful responsibility for financial and operational performance.
Ideally, you will bring:
- Demonstrated General Manager, COO, Managing Director or equivalent experience.
- Genuine P&L;, budgeting, forecasting and cash-flow accountability.
- Experience leading an owner-led or privately held business through growth and professionalisation.
- Strong manufacturing, construction, modular building,
project delivery or related operational experience.
- Evidence of improving revenue, profitability, delivery performance and organisational capability.
- Experience building management teams and reducing dependency on founders or individual employees.
- The confidence to make difficult people and performance decisions fairly and professionally.
- Strong commercial judgement and an ability to balance growth with capacity, margin, quality and risk.
- The ability to work effectively within a staged transition of authority and earn greater autonomy through performance.
- Experience developing government, institutional or major commercial relationships would be highly regarded.
You will be equally comfortable discussing strategy with the owners, interrogating financial performance, developing senior people and walking through the production environment to understand what is really happening.
This is a hands‑on executive role in a growing private business. It will suit someone who enjoys building, improving and taking genuine accountability, not someone dependent on the layers of support available in a large corporate environment.
Why join us
This role provides:
- A senior leadership position with genuine whole-of-business influence.
- The opportunity to shape the structure, systems and future direction of a rapidly growing group.
- An established and profitable operating platform rather than a speculative start-up.
- Strong products, recognised brands and operations across Australia and New Zealand.
- Supportive owners who are committed to growth and prepared to progressively transfer meaningful authority.
- A competitive base salary of $180,000 to $200,000 plus superannuation.
- A target short‑term incentive of 15% of base salary, with up to 25% available for verified stretch performance.
- The potential to be considered for a performance-based equity earn‑in after long-term capability, results and fit have been demonstrated.
- Any future equity participation would be separately agreed and formally documented. It is intended to reward exceptional long‑term value creation rather than form part of the guaranteed initial package.
Location and travel
The role is based at the group’s Gold Coast operation and requires full‑time commitment.
Occasional travel to New Zealand and project locations will be required where reasonably necessary for the business.
