We are working with a supportive Victorian Government specialist school in the Latrobe Valley, Gippsland , seeking a dedicated Literacy Generalist Teacher to join their team from January 2027.

This is an excellent opportunity for a teacher with an English or literacy background, particularly someone with an interest or experience in phonological awareness, phonics and evidence-based literacy programs, including Heggerty and MultiLit.
n
You will have the opportunity to use your literacy expertise within an individualised specialist-school environment, supporting students to develop their literacy, communication, confidence and independence.

The Role n
As a Literacy Generalist Teacher , you will:

- Develop and deliver individualised learning programs.
n
- Plan and deliver differentiated learning experiences.

- Support students across literacy, numeracy and functional learning.

- Develop students' reading, spelling, phonics and broader literacy skills.
n
- Use evidence-based literacy approaches to support student progress.
n
- Apply knowledge of phonological awareness to support literacy development.
n
- Deliver and support structured phonics programs, including Heggerty and MultiLit .
n
- Monitor and assess student literacy development.
n
- Develop students' communication and social skills.
n
- Support students to develop greater independence.
n
- Create a safe, structured and engaging learning environment.
n
- Work collaboratively with Education Support staff.
n
- Work alongside allied-health professionals.
n
- Build strong relationships with students and families.
n
- Support community-based learning and real-world experiences.
n
- Contribute to transition and future pathway planning.

- Monitor and celebrate individual student progress.

About You n
We are looking for a teacher who is:
n
n
- Qualified and eligible for VIT registration.
n
- Experienced in English, literacy or generalist teaching.
n
- Passionate about literacy development and inclusive practice.
n
- Interested in phonological awareness and evidence-based literacy intervention.
n
- Experienced with,
or keen to develop expertise in, Heggerty and MultiLit phonics programs .
n
- Skilled in differentiation and individualised learning.
n
- Positive, patient and relationship-focused.
n
- Strong at building relationships with students.
n
- Committed to seeing the potential in every student.
n
- A collaborative team member.
n
- Adaptable and confident working within a multidisciplinary environment.

- Interested in developing students' literacy, communication, independence and life skills.

Specialist‑school experience is highly regarded but is not essential .

Teachers coming from mainstream settings, particularly those with an English, literacy, primary or generalist teaching background , who are passionate about supporting students with additional learning needs are encouraged to apply.
