Job Description
Business Development, Marketing & Events Coordinator
n
Events | Tenders | Marketing | Communications | Career Development
n
Looking for a BD role where you can actually learn, contribute and build a career?
n
This could be the one.
n
We're working with a well-established Australian law firm that is known for being commercial, team-oriented and refreshingly down-to-earth. They're looking for a BD Coordinator to join their Sydney team and work closely with lawyers, partners and the wider national BD, Marketing & Communications function.
n
And here's the good news: you don't need to have worked in a law firm before.
n
Perhaps you've built your career in events, marketing, or communications in a professional services, property, financial services or another service-focused environment and you're ready to get closer to the commercial side of the business.
n
Or maybe you're already working in law firm BD and looking for a team where you'll get genuine exposure, support and mentorship.
n
Either way, if you're organised, curious and keen to learn, they're interested in meeting you.
n
A role with plenty of variety
n
This is a genuinely broad BD role, with a great mix of events, tenders, marketing and communications.
n
You'll work across:
n
n
- Tenders & proposals – coordinating responses, pulling together capability statements, CVs, credentials and submissions, and helping the firm put its best foot forward
n
- Events – supporting everything from intimate boardroom dinners and client functions through to larger conferences and CLE/learning events
n
- Content & communications – helping create compelling content for the firm's social media channels, supporting LinkedIn activity and bringing the firm's people, expertise and successes to life
n
- Website & profiles – assisting with website content, lawyer and partner profiles, CVs and other materials that showcase the firm's expertise
n
- Business development – working alongside lawyers and partners to understand their priorities and support client and practice group growth
n
- Coordination & delivery – keeping projects moving,
managing deadlines and making sure the detail is right
n
n
You'll support the Sydney and Brisbane offices and work across a range of practice and industry groups, rather than being locked into one particular team.
n
Bring your strengths. Learn the rest.
n
Perhaps events are your strength and you've always wanted to get more involved in tenders, proposals and strategic BD.
n
Or you're a marketing and communications generalist who wants to move beyond content and campaigns and understand how professional services firms actually win work.
n
Maybe you're already comfortable with bids and tenders and want to build your events, communications and client-facing experience.
n
You don't need to tick every box.
n
The team has strong templates, processes and knowledge banks in place, and they're very comfortable teaching the technical side of law-firm BD to someone with the right attitude and transferable skills.
n
What you'll gain is exposure to the full BD mix — from writing a compelling social post or partner profile, to coordinating a major client event, to helping pull together a strategic tender that could win significant new work.
n
The culture
n
This is probably the most important part.
n
The Sydney office is relatively small, so you'll work directly alongside lawyers, partners and the broader corporate services team rather than being tucked away in a separate department.
n
The partners genuinely value BD and are generous with their time.
n
You'll have plenty of opportunity to learn from experienced BD professionals and get exposure to senior people across the firm.
n
It's professional, but not corporate or stuffy. People are expected to work hard, take ownership and deliver - but they're also encouraged to ask questions, collaborate and have a laugh along the way.
n
There are social, sporting, sustainability and diversity initiatives, Friday drinks and plenty of opportunities to get involved beyond your day job.
n
Most importantly, they're looking for someone who is not precious, someone who will roll up their sleeves, have a go and work well with different personalities.
n
Who are you?
n
You might be:
n
n
- A BD Coordinator or Assistant from a law firm or professional services environment
n
- An events coordinator with professional services experience who wants to move into broader BD & strategic marketing
n
- A marketing or communications generalist ready to get closer to commercial strategy
n
- Someone with bids, tenders or proposals experience looking to broaden their skillset
n
- Someone from a hospitality or service-led background who is exceptionally organised, proactive and great with people and strong written and event credentials
n
n
You'll be someone who enjoys writing, creating, organising and making things happen. You're detail-focused, comfortable juggling different priorities and confident dealing with people at all levels.
n
What matters most is that you're smart, organised, commercially curious and keen to build something long term.
n
What's on offer?
n
n
- Genuine mentoring and development from an experienced national BD & Marketing team
n
- Exposure to partners and senior lawyers
n
- A broad role across events, tenders, marketing and communications
n
- The opportunity to develop skills well beyond traditional coordination
n
- A supportive, collaborative Sydney team
n
- Hybrid flexibility, with one day WFH as standard
n
- Time off in lieu for after-hours events, plus an Uber home where required
n
- A clear opportunity to build a long-term career in professional services BD
n
n
If you're a marketing, communications or events professional who has been thinking about moving into BD, this is a particularly good opportunity to make that move.
n
You don't need to know everything on day one. You just need to be good at what you do, curious about the rest, and keen to learn.
