Kinship Foster Care Cultural Support Worker

BHDC Ltd is looking for a Cultural Support Worker. To perform this role it is essential that the person who holds the position be an Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person.

Beenleigh Housing and Development Company Ltd (BHDC) is the oldest Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Controlled Organisation of its type in Eagleby, Beenleigh Logan QLD. BHDC strives to support, enhance, and transform the lives of its members in culturally supportive, community connected and regenerative ways.

The Kinship and Foster Care (KFC) Support Worker, with the support of the Operations Manager and KFC Leaders will work to provide a culturally appropriate service to clients.

Key Responsibilities:

n

DUTIES OF THE ROLE:

n

Foster and Kinship Care Carer support case management, including but not limited to: Attendance at Family Group Meeting's, home visits, placement agreement meetings and stakeholder's meetings, Jinndi Mibunn BHDC staff meetings

n

Supporting carers to ensure that they are meeting the Standards of Care

n

Support to carers with non-critical and critical incidents to minimise the risk to children in care and to minimise the risk of placement breakdown.

n

Assisting the KFC Cultural Mentor in delivering carer training for existing carers in the agency's carer pool

n

Assisting with carer events and career development training

n

Advocacy support for carers

n

Driving the recruitment of kinship and foster carers

n

Ensuring your clients notes and documents are up to date

n

Completing case notes and ensuring all client documents and files are up to date

n

Any other duties reasonably requested by the Operations Manager or Team Leaders

n

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

n

Relevant tertiary qualifications and or proven experience of no less than 2 years

n

Experience writing Foster and Kinship Carer assessments

n





Experience working in not-for-profit community controlled organisation

n

Knowledge of the Child Protection Act of 1999, as amended, and an ability to navigate the legislation to find relevant information.

n

Knowledge of the Child Safety Practice Manual and the ability to navigate it and use it to support clients.

n

Holder of a Blue Card (No Card – No Start policy applies)

n

High level of communications skills including the ability to hold difficult and challenging conversations with clients, if required

n

Demonstrated writing skills and the ability to produce comprehensive, detailed, and accurate case notes, reports and assessments using a computer including spreadsheets, email, internet, digital media etc.

Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team

n

OTHER CRITERIA:

n

At least 2 years' experience working in the child protection sector

n

Open Queensland Driver's licence, without current suspension or disqualification

n

Knowledge or ability to gain knowledge of the Child Protection Act of 1999, as amended, and an ability to navigate the legislation to find relevant information

n

Knowledge or ability to gain knowledge of the Child Safety Practice Manual and the ability to navigate it and use it to support clients

n

Selection Criteria

n

Experience and/or the ability to demonstrate community development skills in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, particularly a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

n
