Confluent Kafka Engineer - 6 Month Contract + extensions

An iconic Australian organisation is seeking an experienced Confluent Kafka Engineer to join its technology team on an initial 6-month contract.

n

You'll play a key role in building, operating and evolving an enterprise event streaming platform, delivering secure, scalable and reliable real-time data solutions across a complex technology environment.

n

What you'll be doing

n

n
- Design, build and enhance enterprise event streaming capabilities using Confluent Cloud and Apache Kafka.
n
- Develop and support Kafka Connect, event-driven integrations and reusable streaming patterns.
n
- Establish engineering standards, governance controls and platform best practices.
n
- Partner with architecture, security and delivery teams to implement event-driven solutions.
n
- Build automation and self-service capabilities to improve platform reliability and developer experience.
n
- Apply Platform Engineering, DevOps and SRE practices across the environment.
n
- Monitor and optimise platform performance, availability and capacity.
n
- Support business-critical production environments, including incident and problem management.
n




- Provide technical guidance to engineering and delivery teams.
n

What we're looking for

n

n
- Strong commercial experience with Confluent Cloud and/or Confluent Platform.
n
- Deep knowledge of Apache Kafka, Kafka Connect and event-driven architecture.
n
- Experience designing secure, scalable and highly available streaming platforms.
n
- Strong cloud experience, ideally GCP.
n
- Experience with Kubernetes, Docker and Terraform or similar IaC tooling.
n
- CI/CD experience using GitLab CI or equivalent.
n
- Robust understanding of Platform Engineering, automation and SRE practices.
n
- Experience supporting business-critical production platforms.
n
- Exposure to Apache Flink, Confluent Cloud Flink or Kafka Streams would be highly regarded.
n
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
n
