Your role at St John of God Murdoch Hospital

n

St John of God Murdoch Hospital has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Speech Pathologist Grade 2 to join our Allied Health team on a casual basis.

n

Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will provide high-quality, evidence-based speech pathology services to patients with communication, cognitive and swallowing disorders. You will work with a high level of autonomy, applying your advanced clinical knowledge and experience to support complex patient care while contributing to the development of the Speech Pathology service.

You will also play an important role in clinical leadership, supervision, education, mentoring and quality improvement, supporting the ongoing development of junior staff and students.

About the role

n

n
- Provide senior-level assessment and management of patients with communication, cognitive and swallowing disorders.
n
- Develop and implement individualised, evidence-based treatment programs, including short and long-term goals for complex patients.
n
- Provide clinical consultation and expert advice within the Speech Pathology discipline and broader multidisciplinary team.
n
- Participate in ward rounds, case conferences, family meetings and patient review meetings.
n
- Provide education and support to patients and families regarding communication and swallowing difficulties, treatment and discharge planning.
n




- Make appropriate referrals and recommendations for further assessment, treatment and community support.
n
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation, including assessment results, treatment plans and patient progress.
n
- Triage and allocate Speech Pathology referrals to ensure patients receive timely and appropriate care.
n
- Support the supervision, mentoring and development of junior Speech Pathologists, Allied Health Assistants and students.
n
- Contribute to the education and professional development of the multidisciplinary team.
n
- Identify opportunities to develop and improve clinical practice, including emerging areas of assessment and treatment.
n
- Lead and participate in evidence-based quality improvement, research and service development activities.
n
- Contribute to the development and review of Speech Pathology resources, clinical documentation and assessment tools.

About you

n

You will be an experienced Speech Pathologist with a strong clinical background and the ability to work confidently and independently within a healthcare setting.

n

You will have:

n

n
- A tertiary qualification in Speech Pathology.
n
- Current full membership with Speech Pathology Australia.
n
- Demonstrated senior clinical experience, ideally within a hospital or healthcare environment.
n
- Videofluroscopy experience is highly regarded
n
- Advanced knowledge and experience in the assessment and management of communication, cognitive and swallowing disorders.
n




- Demonstrated ability to provide clinical leadership, supervision and mentoring to junior staff and students.
n
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
n
- Demonstrated commitment to evidence-based clinical practice and continuous improvement.
n
- The ability to identify and implement creative approaches to clinical practice and service development.
n
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to effectively prioritise and manage a clinical caseload.
n

- Casual rate: $82.55 - $88.02 per hour (inclusive of casual loading), plus12% superannuation
