The Somers General is located on the picturesque western sideof the Mornington Peninsula. First opened in 1927 as the Boulevard Café & Post Office store, the heart of this lovely building has always been to serve it's community. Today, the venue is once more a café and general store all in one, focusing on local produce and products.

We areopen seven days a week, our kitchen hours are 8-3pm.

We arestill the local hub for ourloyal customer base of people ranging from young families all the way to retirees and holidaymakers.

About the Role

n

We have a fantastic opportunity available for an experienced Head Chef to join our team,working ina well-equipped and spacious kitchen.

n

Ourkitchen hasmultiple prep areas, large dish area and a walk-in fridge.

n





The menu focuses on comfort food and classics done well witha local, creative flair.

n

Your daily duties would include but not be limited to:

n

Create and implement menus with a focus on local, seasonal produce

n

Responsible for the costings of menu dishes

n

Managing quality control and ensuring consistent high standards of product and dishes

n

Ensuring smooth, efficient service through all service periods

n

Opportunity to manage events and functions

n

Maintaining food safety logs

n

Working with the FOH team on menu knowledge

n

Responsible for a respectful, calm, inclusive and safe work environment

n

Management of all training and development of the kitchen team

n

Managing staff rosters and wages

n

About You

n

Must have previous cafe experience

n

A genuine passion for food

n

High level of hygiene standards and personal presentation

n

A calm, positive work attitude

n

Experience with menu planning
