(WTAC) is the Prescribed Body Corporate representing the Nyalpa
Pirniku people and operates a growing Commercial Services division
delivering reliable, on-Country workforce solutions to mining,
exploration and industrial clients across the Western Australian
Goldfields. WTAC partners with leading resource companies to
support secure, efficient and sustainable operations through the
provision of skilled personnel and technical services. Position
Summary The Mechanical Engineering Technician provides technical
support for the maintenance, operation and optimisation of heavy
diesel-powered plant, mining machinery and associated mechanical
systems. Working alongside engineers, supervisors and diesel
mechanics, the role focuses on equipment diagnostics, maintenance
planning, fault analysis, condition monitoring and the
implementation of engineering solutions that improve equipment
reliability and operational efficiency. The position supports
preventative and corrective maintenance programs across a range of
mining and mobile plant assets, ensuring compliance with
manufacturer specifications, workplace safety requirements and
relevant Australian Standards. Key Duties and Responsibilities
Assist with the inspection, testing and technical evaluation of
heavy mobile plant, diesel engines, ancillary equipment and
mechanical systems. Conduct diagnostic investigations and analyse
equipment performance data to identify mechanical faults, wear
patterns and maintenance requirements. Support the development and




implementation of preventative and predictive maintenance schedules
to maximise equipment availability and reliability. Prepare and
maintain technical documentation, maintenance records, service
reports and engineering logs. Monitor and evaluate machinery
operating parameters and recommend improvements to optimise
performance and minimise downtime. Assist engineering and
maintenance teams with troubleshooting complex mechanical and
hydraulic system issues. Liaise with workshop personnel, site
supervisors and equipment operators regarding maintenance
activities and technical requirements. Ensure maintenance and
repair activities are performed in accordance with OEM
specifications, engineering standards and statutory regulations.
Assist in the planning and coordination of equipment shutdowns,
overhauls and component replacements. Participate in equipment
commissioning, testing and acceptance inspections following repairs
or modifications. Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
by identifying opportunities to enhance maintenance practices,
operational efficiency and equipment life cycles. Promote and
maintain compliance with Workplace Health and Safety (WHS)
policies, environmental requirements and site-specific procedures.
Provide technical support across various remote mining and
commercial operations within the Goldfields region as required.
Skills and Experience Relevant qualification equivalent to an AQF
Diploma or higher in Mechanical Engineering Technology or a closely
related field. Demonstrated experience supporting the maintenance
and operation of heavy diesel-powered mining or construction
equipment. Sound knowledge of mechanical,



hydraulic and diesel
engine systems. Experience interpreting engineering drawings,
technical manuals and maintenance documentation. Ability to perform
technical diagnostics and fault-finding using industry-standard
testing equipment. Strong understanding of preventative and
predictive maintenance methodologies. High level of computer
literacy and experience maintaining digital maintenance records and
reports. Excellent communication and problem-solving skills with
the ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams.
Ability to work independently in remote and regional environments
under a FIFO or DIDO roster arrangement. Commitment to workplace
safety, quality assurance and continuous improvement. Desirable
Attributes Experience working within the Australian mining or
resource sector. Familiarity with condition monitoring systems and
maintenance management software. Current manual driver's licence
and the ability to meet mine site medical and induction
requirements. Knowledge of relevant Australian Standards and mining
industry safety practices. Reporting Relationships The Mechanical
Engineering Technician reports directly to the Commercial Services
Operations Manager or nominated Site Supervisor and works closely
with Mechanical Engineers, Diesel Mechanics, Maintenance
Supervisors and client representatives to ensure the efficient
operation and maintenance of mining and commercial equipment. Work
Environment The role is predominantly site-based and involves
working on remote mining and exploration projects across the
Western Australian Goldfields. Duties may be performed in
workshops, field maintenance environments and active operational
sites, requiring adherence to strict safety and operational
protocols.
