Job Description

You will work across family groups, privately owned businesses, medical professionals, property developers, trades, professional-services clients, high-net-worth individuals and SMSFs. The variety extends beyond industry: you will see different structures, entity types, transaction issues and stages of business growth, helping you build broader technical judgement without being pigeonholed.

Your initial work will sit roughly at: Financial statements and tax compliance (65%), Tax planning (10%), Business and strategic advisory (10%), SMSF work (10%), Business improvement projects (5%). The compliance work is varied and often involves larger clients, multiple entities and issues requiring careful technical consideration. As your capability develops, you will receive increasing exposure to tax planning, advisory assignments, client discussions and the review and development of junior team members.

Key responsibilities

- Preparing financial statements and income tax returns for companies, trusts, partnerships and individuals
n
- Preparing BAS, IAS and FBT returns
n
- Identifying tax issues and opportunities arising from client work
n
- Assisting managers and partners with year-end tax planning
n
- Researching and helping resolve technical taxation matters
n
- Preparing clear working papers, client correspondence and supporting calculations
n
- Liaising with clients and the ATO to obtain information and resolve routine matters
n
- Contributing to business advisory and improvement projects
n
- Completing or assisting with SMSF financial statements and tax returns
n
- Progressively reviewing junior work and supporting less-experienced team members

About you

n

- Around 5 to 7 years in Australian public-practice accounting
n




- Experience preparing financial statements and income tax returns for companies, trusts, partnerships and individuals
n
- CA or CPA qualified, or working towards it
n
- Sound knowledge of Australian tax and business structures
n
- Clear written and verbal communication, an eye for detail and a proactive way of working
n
- An organised, reliable and proactive approach
n
- A genuine interest in continuing to learn and progress
n
- Desirable: SMSF experience, and/or some exposure to tax planning and advisory
n
- Desirable: Experience reviewing junior work
n
- Desirable: Xero, XPM, CAS 360 or Simple Fund 360
n
