As a Systems Engineer, you will support the integration of advanced digital and sensor capabilities across complex tactical network environments.
n You will contribute systems engineering expertise across architecture, requirements, integration, assurance, and Test & Evaluation activities.
n The role sits within a newly established national office focused on advancing an Integrated Sensor Architecture across current and future capabilities.
n You will work across Defence, engineering, technical, industry, and project stakeholders to strengthen interoperability and technical governance.
n Your responsibilities will include developing engineering plans, supporting design and test reviews, managing technical risks, and providing engineering assurance.
n You will also contribute to strategic technical direction, capability integration, verification, validation, and operational testing.

Accountabilities

n

- Systems Engineering: Develop and maintain Systems Engineering Management Plans (SEMP), Test and Evaluation Master Plans (TEMP), requirements, stakeholder needs, architecture artefacts, and verification and validation plans.
n
- Engineering Reviews: Prepare for and support design reviews, requirements reviews, test readiness reviews, and other formal engineering activities.
n
- Technical Authority: Exercise delegated technical authority for prototyping activities and provide engineering advice throughout capability development and integration.
n
- Integration & Assurance: Support the implementation of integrated sensor capabilities across tactical networks while ensuring alignment with Defence engineering, architecture, assurance, and governance frameworks.
n
- Technical Advice: Provide systems engineering guidance on architecture implementation, interoperability, integration, and technical assurance.
n
- Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with Defence,



industry, engineering teams, project offices, technical authorities, and senior stakeholders to support technical direction and delivery.
n
- Risk & Governance: Identify, assess, and manage technical risks while supporting engineering governance, assurance, compliance, and capability integration activities.
n
- Verification & Testing: Contribute to verification, validation, Test & Evaluation, and operational test activities throughout the capability lifecycle.
n
- Reporting & Documentation: Produce project status reports, situation reports, engineering documentation, technical artefacts, presentations, assessments, and recommendations.
n
- Strategic Support: Contribute to technical planning and provide evidence-based engineering recommendations to support senior leadership and capability decisions.

Requirements:

n

n
- Education: Bachelor's degree or higher in Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related discipline.
n
- Professional Eligibility: Eligibility for membership with Engineers Australia or an equivalent professional engineering body.
n
- Systems Engineering Experience: Significant experience in systems engineering within ICT, Defence, or other complex technology environments.
n
- C4 Experience: Demonstrated experience supporting complex Command, Control, Communications and Computing (C4) systems.
n
- Systems Integration: Practical experience across systems integration, verification, validation, and Test & Evaluation activities.
n
- Engineering Authority: Ability to hold or exercise engineering design authority within complex technical environments.
n
- Security Clearance: Eligibility to obtain and maintain an NV1 Security Clearance.
n
- Defence Engineering: Experience with military communications, networks,



software-intensive systems, interoperability standards, or related Defence technologies is highly desirable.
n
- Advanced Systems Engineering: Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), safety-critical systems, software assurance, or comparable engineering disciplines is advantageous.
n
- Technical Leadership: Strong ability to provide technical leadership and engage effectively with senior stakeholders, engineering authorities, and multidisciplinary teams.
n
- Defence Programs: Experience supporting Defence acquisition, capability development, or complex systems integration programs is highly desirable.
n
- Additional Experience: Knowledge of Defence capability processes, engineering governance, Land Worthiness processes, project management, scheduling, risk management, and technical team leadership is advantageous.
n
- Professional Certification: Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status is highly desirable.
n
- ADF Experience: Previous Australian Defence Force (ADF) service or experience working within Defence-related organisations is advantageous.
n
- Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex engineering matters into clear reports, briefings, and recommendations.
