Job Description
Business Development Manager - Mid sized Civil Contractor
n
Be the Person Who Opens the Door Before the Market Moves
n
Some companies wait for tenders to be released.
n
Others are already in the room, helping shape the project before it ever reaches the market.
n
Our client sits firmly in the second category.
n
With a strong track record across civil construction, infrastructure, and resource-driven projects, the next phase of growth in Queensland is about deepening relationships, expanding market presence, and securing the right opportunities early.
n
As Business Development Manager, you'll be at the centre of that.
n
This Is About Positioning, Not Pitching
n
This isn't a transactional sales role.
n
It's about
n
n
- Understanding where the market is heading before it becomes visible
n
- Building trusted relationships across government, resources, and private clients
n
- Positioning the business early, so when projects move, you're already part of the conversation

You'll be measured on access, influence, and outcomes.
n
Why This Role Matters

Our client is continuing to expand its footprint in Queensland.
n
Success will come from
n
n
- Securing a strong forward pipeline
n
- Building long-term client relationships

n
You'll:

- State and local government agencies
n
- Resource and energy sector clients
n
- Tier 1/2 contractors and delivery partners

- Identify and qualify upcoming opportunities early, before formal procurement
n
- Develop and execute client engagement plans for priority sectors
n
- Lead internal go / no-go discussions with senior leadership
n
- Work closely with estimating and bid teams to shape winning strategies
n
- Provide market intelligence and insight to inform business decisions
n

n
- You're not just building a pipeline, you're building the pathway to win the right work.
n
n
What Makes This Role Different
n
Our client brings a reputation built over decades and is expanding across Australia.
n
In Queensland, that creates a unique chance:
n
You'll be
n
n
- Part of a growth story, not maintaining an established position
n
- Able to shape how the business is seen in the market
n
- Working across diverse sectors, civil infrastructure, resources, and construction
n
- Backed by a business with real delivery capability
n
- This is a role where you can build something meaningful, not just manage relationships.
n
n
About You
n
You understand that in construction and infrastructure, relationships and timing drive success.
n
n
- Have experience in business development, client engagement, or project delivery within civil/infrastructure
n
- Bring an existing network across Queensland (government, resources, contractors, or consultants)
n
- Understand how projects are delivered, and where risks and opportunities sit
n
- Are confident engaging at senior levels with clients and partners
n
- Think strategically about pipeline and positioning, not just individual tenders
n
- Are proactive, self-driven, and comfortable working with autonomy
n
n
You might come from:
n
n
- A civil contractor (BD, PM, or estimator transitioning into BD)
n
- A resources or infrastructure delivery background
n
- A consultancy or client-side role with strong stakeholder exposure
n
n
What You'll Be Influencing
n
n
- The strength and quality of the Queensland pipeline
n
- Which sectors and clients the business grows into
n
- How the business is positioned in the market
n
- The success of major project pursuits
n
n
Why our client
n
They are known for their practical delivery capability, long-term relationships, and diversified operations across construction, civil, and resources.
n
What that means for you
n
n
- You'll be backed by a business that can actually deliver what it commits to.
n
- You'll have the autonomy to build relationships your way.
n
- You'll play a key role in shaping growth in a new and expanding market.
n
- You'll work closely with experienced leaders who understand both strategy and delivery.
n
n
What Success Looks Like
n
Success in this role isn't about volume, it's about quality and positioning.
n
It looks like
n
n
- Being engaged with clients before projects are formally announced
n
- Building trusted, long-term relationships across key sectors
n
- Developing a strong, visible pipeline of opportunities
n
- Helping the business secure the right work, not just more work
n
- Becoming a recognised and respected presence in the Queensland market
n
n
If This Sounds Like You
n
This is an opportunity to
n
n
- Take ownership of a key growth role
n
- Build meaningful relationships across the industry
n
- And play a direct part in expanding their presence in Queensland
