ABOUT THE ROLE:

We are looking for a Quality Inspector in our Chassis department to join the team at our Eagle Farm facility. This is a hands-on, shop floor-based Quality Inspector role focused on identifying and preventing defects throughout the bus manufacturing process.



Working closely with manufacturers, you will inspect vehicles, report quality issues and support corrective actions to ensure buses meet Volgren's quality standards, specifications and customer expectations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Conduct quality inspections and testing of imported and in-production buses to ensure compliance with quality, safety, engineering, and customer requirements.
- Identify, document, and communicate defects, non-conformances, and quality concerns, supporting timely corrective actions.
- Perform vehicle inspections, functional testing, and test drives where required.
- Review engineering drawings, specifications, SOPs, and work instructions to verify product compliance.
- Investigate recurring quality issues through root cause analysis and support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Raise and maintain quality documentation, including inspection reports and non-conformance reports (NCRs).
- Monitor quality trends, defect data, and performance metrics, providing feedback to internal stakeholders and manufacturing partners.
- Coordinate and verify rectification and rework activities with production and service teams.
- Support customer inspections, vehicle handovers, and quality-related enquiries.
- Assist with maintaining quality systems, procedures, work instructions, and engineering change processes.
- Actively promote quality standards, safety, customer satisfaction, and operational excellence across the business.

COMPETENCIES:

- Strong understanding of welding, fabrication, mechanical assembly, and manufacturing quality standards.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and quality documentation.
- Knowledge of fasteners, torque requirements, materials, tolerances, fitment, and workmanship standards.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify defects and quality concerns.
- Effective problem-solving, root cause analysis,



and decision-making skills.
- Confident communicator with the ability to provide constructive feedback and address quality issues professionally.
- Ability to work independently, prioritise tasks, and make sound decisions in a production environment.
- Proactive and solutions-focused approach to quality and continuous improvement.
- Proficiency in the use of measuring equipment, hand tools, power tools, and manufacturing tooling.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

- Relevant trade qualification in Boilermaking, Welding, Fabrication, Mechanical Fitting, Coach Building, or a related discipline is highly regarded.
- Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following: heavy vehicle manufacturing, automotive manufacturing, fabrication, sheet metal work, coach building, or mechanical assembly.
- Experience in bus, truck, trailer, rail, or similar manufacturing environments preferred.
- Practical experience in quality inspection, defect identification, and manufacturing processes.
- Equivalent combination of trade qualifications and substantial hands-on manufacturing experience will be considered.
- Current driver's licence with the ability to test drive vehicles where required.

This position also requires the applicant to undertake a pre-employment medical which includes a drug and alcohol analysis, musculoskeletal evaluation and hearing test
