About the role

We are seeking Clinical Midwife Specialists to join our Maternity team in multiple permanent part-time positions.

As a Clinical Midwife Specialist, you will play a key role in promoting and maintaining high clinical standards across the Maternity Unit, supporting the delivery of patient-centred care and optimal patient outcomes within available resources. You will work in alignment with the Mission and Values of St John of God Health Care.

Our maternity unit features a 24-bed ward and five modern birth suites. As one of the busiest hospitals in the region, St John of God Midland Public Hospital offers a Midwife led, fast-paced environment with growing demand for public maternity services. Our midwives are dedicated to providing all aspects of pregnancy, birth and postnatal care in our antenatal clinics and services, on our maternity wards and in birth suites, in addition to care for our babies in our special care nurseries.

Key responsibilities





- Undertake rounds within the clinical areas to facilitate planning for and response to the clinical requirements of the shift.
- Identify patients at risk of clinical deterioration and ensure appropriate planning is in place to manage any issue that may arise.
- Liaise with Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit, Theatre and Birth Suites on any complex patient issues and potential impacts they may have on the service.
- Negotiate patient care with medical and allied health professionals and other agencies as required.
- Act as a clinical resource for all midwives, and where appropriate, other caregivers.
- Contribute to identification and analysis of trends and issues as they affect clinical practice, undertakes investigations and implements practice changes as required.
- Demonstrate positive role modeling and leadership as outlined in the SJGHC Leadership Profile.
- Demonstrate both clinical and administrative leadership through effective communication, interpersonal skills, change management ability and the development of a high-performance team that exhibits a culture of professional accountability and quality service.

Your skills and experience

To be successful in this role, you will have current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a Registered Nurse Midwife/Registered Midwife,



along with advanced clinical skills and experience across all areas of the Maternity Unit.
