About the role

A Grade One Journalist/Cadet role working across five best-in-class publications in the liquor and hospitality industry – The Shout, National Liquor News, Australian Hotelier, Bars & Cocktails and Beer & Brewer. You'll work across all five titles in both print and digital formats, writing on a wide variety of topics for news articles and longer-form features, as well as creating social media posts and supporting events and other special projects. You'll get a terrific introduction to your career in journalism, working alongside experienced and supportive journalists, liaising with designers and planning and creating content that's lively, entertaining and useful to readers. The role will give you unrivalled access to Australia's vibrant liquor and hospitality industry, dealing with a variety of stakeholders across several sectors and managing multiple projects at the same time.

Key responsibilities

- Planning and writing news articles and features

- Sourcing images for articles

- Interviewing and transcribing

- Contributing regular posts to the titles' social media channels while adhering to the company's social media policy

- Liaising with the digital team at Intermedia to support growth and increased engagement of the titles' online readerships

- Proofing pages, making corrections and ensuring all output is accurate and polished and meets production deadlines

- Acting as an ambassador for the title, attending relevant functions and press events to boost the profile of the title, source material for news and features and support the sales team as required





- Supporting/attending any face-to-face events organised by the publications

- Contributing ideas for articles

- Some interstate and international travel may be required from time to time

About you

- Strong written and verbal communication skills

- An understanding of writing for digital platforms

- Strong organisational skills and ability to manage a wide variety of tasks with high attention to detail

- Ability to work among a team as well as independently, both in the office and remotely

- Willingness to attend some events outside standard working hours

- Willingness to travel on occasion

- Ability to use a personal computer and related software applications

- Internship or other experience of working in a news setting would be highly regarded

- Knowledge of the hospitality or liquor sector would be advantageous but not essential
