About the role

Butlers Mechanical Pty Ltd is seeking an experienced Heavy Diesel Mechanic to join our team in Port Augusta, SA. This is a full-time position based at our Port Augusta workshop. As a Heavy Diesel Mechanic, you will be responsible for maintaining, diagnosing and repairing heavy diesel vehicles and equipment, ensuring they operate safely and efficiently. This role is critical to supporting our customers' operations and maintaining Butlers Mechanical's reputation as a trusted service provider in the automotive trades.

Key responsibilities

- Perform routine maintenance and servicing on heavy diesel vehicles and equipment, including oil changes, filter replacements, fluid top-ups and inspections

- Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults using diagnostic equipment and technical knowledge to identify issues accurately

- Repair and replace components including engines, transmissions, braking systems, suspension systems and fuel injection systems

- Conduct thorough inspections of vehicles and equipment to identify wear, damage or safety concerns

- Maintain detailed service records and documentation for all work completed

- Communicate effectively with customers regarding repair requirements, timescales and costs

- Comply with all workplace health and safety regulations and procedures

- Keep abreast of industry developments and new diesel engine technologies

What we're looking for

- A qualification in diesel mechanics

- Substantial experience working on heavy diesel vehicles, earthmoving equipment or similar heavy machinery

- Proficiency in using diagnostic equipment and workshop tools

- Strong knowledge of diesel engine systems, fuel injection technology and heavy vehicle components

- Experience with both mechanical and electrical troubleshooting





- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, service bulletins and workshop specifications

- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail

- Strong work ethic, reliability and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team

- Valid driver's licence an advantage
