Our client is a large, well-established national organisation with a significant Australian footprint and operations across multiple locations.
Working within a sizeable and experienced finance function, this is a great opportunity to gain exposure to the systems, processes and reporting requirements that come with a large and complex corporate environment.
They are looking for an Assistant Accountant / Accountant to join the team on an initial temporary assignment through to Christmas.
The role is genuinely open to someone specifically looking for their next short-term assignment, including Working Holiday candidates, while there may also be potential for the position to develop into something longer term for the right person.
Based in Melbourne's inner suburbs and close to public transport, this is a broad, hands-on accounting opportunity with strong exposure to month-end and financial accounting.

The Role
Reporting to the Finance Manager and working as part of an established finance team, you will provide support across month-end, reconciliations and broader financial accounting.
Responsibilities will include:

- Assisting with month-end close
- General ledger reconciliations
- Bank reconciliations
- Preparing and posting journals
- Investigating and resolving reconciliation differences
- Assisting with trial balance preparation and review
- Intercompany reconciliations
- Supporting monthly financial and management reporting
- Fixed asset accounting and reconciliations
- BAS preparation and support
- Assisting with ad hoc accounting and reporting requirements

The underlying position also supports reporting, budgeting and forecasting across a large multi-site operation, providing broader exposure than you might typically find in a smaller accounting team.

The Successful Candidate
We are keeping the profile deliberately broad.
You may be an Assistant Accountant looking to step up into a larger corporate environment, a part-qualified Accountant wanting stronger month-end exposure, or an experienced/qualified Accountant who is happy to roll up their sleeves for a short-term assignment.
Ideally, you will have:

- Previous Assistant Accountant, Accountant or similar experience
- Strong reconciliation experience
- Exposure to month-end accounting
- Good general ledger knowledge
- Experience preparing journals
- Solid Excel skills
- Robust attention to detail
- The ability to work effectively within a larger finance team
- The ability to quickly learn new systems and processes
- Availability to commence at short notice

Most importantly, you will be comfortable working across a broad accounting remit and happy to get involved wherever required.
