The South West Aboriginal Medical Service (SWAMS) is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service based in Bunbury which provides a variety of health services to Aboriginal people in the South West of Western Australia. SWAMS delivers a wide range of primary health and community programs and has a strong growth strategy through partnership opportunities and future community development.

SWAMS is seeking an organised and motivated Project Officer – Culturally Safe Cancer Care to support delivery of the Partnerships for Culturally Safe Cancer Care Project. This is a Part-time role of three days per week which is budgeted until June 2028.

The Project Officer will coordinate the administrative and operational aspects of the project, including work planning, governance support, project records, stakeholder activities, reporting and the tracking of milestones and deliverables.

Working under the day-to-day leadership and guidance of the Health Promotion Officer, the role will help coordinate SWAMS contributions across the project’s establishment, pilot, evaluation and sustainability phases.

This is a varied role that includes but is not limited too:

- Maintain the SWAMS project work plan, milestone schedule, action register and deliverable tracker
- Supports the coordination of SWAMS contributions to set-up, operationalisation, pilot, evaluation and sustainability activities
- Demonstrate an understanding of and compliance with all SWAMS policies and procedures.
- Participate in maintaining a safe working environment.
- Participate in performance appraisals and be responsible for contributing to own professional development.
- Attend and participate in the professional development program and relevant external seminars and conferences, as approved.
- Uphold the Code of Conduct and ensure the safety and wellbeing of children and young people,



while promoting a child-safe environment and act in line with SWAMS’ child safeguarding policies and the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations.

We are looking for someone who:

- Has experience supporting or coordinating community, health, research, service development of grant-funded projects
- Has strong organisational, administrative, documentation and follow-up skills
- Can coordinate meetings, workshops, consultation activities or governance groups
- Can manage multiple contributors, project records and competing deadlines
- Builds respectful working relationships with Aboriginal community members, internal teams and external partners
- Communicates clearly with community, operational and governance audiences
- Can work independently within agreed responsibilities and collaboratively within a multi-agency team
- Demonstrates a commitment to cultural safety, Aboriginal self-determination and community-led practice

Essential Criteria

- Aboriginal people are strongly encouraged to apply and will be given preference for this role
- National Police Clearance
- Current WA C or CA driver’s licence
- Working with Children Check
- Ability to travel to project meetings or workshops as required

Desirable Criteria

- Experience working in Aboriginal, cancer care, chronic disease, research, community engagement, health promotion or service navigation
- Knowledge of cancer screening, cancer care pathways,



multidisciplinary team models or patient navigation
- Supports coordination, maintenance and development of agreed project documents, including referral pathway documents, stakeholder engagement plan, risk register, monitoring framework and implementation resources
- Monitor emerging risks and overdue actions and escalate matters requiring management or partner decisions.
