The School of Environment and Sciences offers degrees in pioneering programs in the areas of environmental, biomolecular and biomedical science, forensic science, and science.

An exciting opportunity exists for a Scientific Assistant in a position that will provide a comprehensive range of technical support to the teaching laboratory initiatives of the School.

About the Chance

The Scientific Assistant, under general direction and supervision of the Technical Manager (Biosciences), is part of a multi-disciplinary team that provides support for laboratory and fieldwork activities to a variety of undergraduate courses and research activities, within the Griffith School of Setting and Science (ESC) at the Nathan campus.

Key responsibilities
Coordinate the setup, delivery, and pack-down of teaching laboratory practicals.
Supervise and support the Laboratory Attendant to ensure smooth laboratory operations.
Prepare equipment, consumables, chemicals, and samples for student experiments.
Provide in-class laboratory support and maintain clean, organised laboratory spaces.
Maintain laboratory documentation, including risk assessments, SOPs, and equipment manuals.
Manage laboratory inventory, procurement, and distribution of teaching resources.




Assist with routine maintenance of teaching laboratory equipment.
Support outreach, engagement, and community activities as required.
Promote compliance with health, safety, and University policies and procedures.
Demonstrate professionalism and uphold the University's values and Code of Conduct.
Undertake other duties as directed by the Technical Manager (Biosciences), consistent with the position requirements.

About you
The successful candidate will have relevant tertiary qualifications up to Certificate level with subsequent relevant practical experience, or a combination of equivalent qualifications and relevant training. Possessing current knowledge of valuable workplace health and safety practice will be viewed favourably.

This is a full time continuing opportunity primarily based at our Brisbane South (Nathan) campus. As Griffith is a multi-site university, you may be required to work across other locations.

Salary

HEW 3 - Base range - $67,146.54 - $74,224.69 + 17% superannuation. Full package range - $78,561.45 - $86,842.88.
