Codehaus is an Australian software engineering consultancy delivering complex solutions across Defence, Government, and Industry.

We’re looking for a software engineer with hands-on experience building AI-powered applications, integrating large language models, and developing agentic workflows. You’ll work alongside experienced engineers and domain experts to turn emerging AI capabilities into practical software.

What You’ll Do
Design and build software that integrates LLMs, tools, APIs, and data sources.
Develop retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) and agentic workflows.
Build prototypes, evaluate their effectiveness, and develop them into reliable capabilities.
Contribute to software design, testing, integration, and deployment.

What We’re Looking For
Robust software engineering skills, with proficiency in Python and experience with other languages welcomed.
Practical experience integrating LLMs into applications, including tool calling, structured outputs, and context management.
Experience building RAG systems or agentic workflows.
Sound engineering practices, including testing, version control, Linux,



and Docker.
Curiosity, ownership, and the ability to work through unfamiliar technical problems.

We’re interested in AI systems you’ve built and evaluated. Using AI coding assistants such as Claude Code or Codex alone isn’t sufficient for this role.

Experience with open-weight models, local inference, fine-tuning, data engineering, or machine learning would be highly regarded.

Security Requirements

Australian citizenship and a current Australian Government Security Clearance, or eligibility for reinstatement of a previously held clearance, are required.
