Job Description

The Role – 9-12 month fixed-term contract (FTC)
The Deputy General Counsel is a senior member of the Legal and Governance team, working closely with the General Counsel to provide strategic, commercially focused legal advice across the organisation.
With a particular focus on funding agreements, complex commercial contracts,commonwealth/publiclaw, governance, and compliance, this is a fascinating slant on a traditional energy projects role.
In this role you will:
Draft, negotiate, and advise oncomplex funding agreementsandcommercial contracts
Advise onprocurement, privacy, governance, andlegislative compliance
Advise on obligations as acorporate Commonwealth entity, including under theAREA ActandPGPA Act.
Support the General Counsel in managing external legal advisors and external legal support
Advise on disputes, negotiations, litigation,
and settlement recommendations
Provid legal input intoBoard and Committee matters, policiesanddelegation frameworks
Develop and improve legal policies, procedures, templates, and tools
Supervise and mentor junior lawyers and support staff
Build strong relationships across the organisation and provide practical legal advice that enables delivery rather that just identifying risk
The Candidate
The successful candidate will have:
4-7 years PAE
Strongcommercial contracting experience, with ability to independently draft and negotiate complex agreements
Strong knowledge ofpublic and administrative law,contract law, andcorporate governance
Exposure to thePGPA Act,Government procurement,funding/grant agreements, andCommonwealth governance frameworks
Strong commercial judgement - someone who can provide a recommendation rather than simply identifying risk
Comfortability operating with senior executives, and key internal stakeholders
Experience supervising, mentoring, or developing lawyers
