The Prospect

We're looking for a trade-qualified Mechanical Fitter to join the Guide Shop team at a leading steel manufacturing facility in Laverton.

This isn't just about filling a short-term vacancy. With some long-standing members of the team reaching retirement, we're looking for someone who wants to settle into the role, become part of the team and build a long-term future at the site.

You'll initially commence on a temp-to-perm basis, with a genuine prospect to transition into permanent employment with the client.

Working within the Guide Shop, you'll support the Bar Mill and Rod Mill, maintaining, refurbishing and preparing critical equipment to keep operations running safely and efficiently.

What You'll Be Doing
Maintain, refurbish and recondition Bar Mill and Rod Mill equipment
Prepare and maintain guides, mill rolls and housings
Carry out mechanical repairs and preventative maintenance
Support equipment changeovers and maintenance during mill downtime
Complete welding and fabrication repairs using MIG, TIG and/or ARC




Ensure equipment is ready in line with production requirements
Maintain a clean, organised and safe work area
Follow all site safety procedures and requirements

What We're Looking For
Strong mechanical fitting and fault-finding skills
Welding experience - MIG, TIG and/or ARC
Experience within steel, manufacturing, heavy industry or fixed plant highly regarded
Experience with mill stands, rolls or guide equipment advantageous, but not essential
Forklift licence advantageous
Strong safety focus and a reliable, team-oriented attitude
Someone genuinely looking for a long-term opportunity
