Horse Transport Driver / Stablehand – Archibald Racing

Archibald Racing is seeking an experienced and reliable Horse Transport Driver / Stablehand to join our NSW team.
n
This is a great prospect for someone with strong horse-handling skills and a minimum MR licence who is looking to work within a leading thoroughbred racing stable.
n
The successful applicant will be confident handling thoroughbreds, reliable and punctual, able to work independently as well as part of a team, and have a strong understanding of workplace health and safety.
n
The position will primarily focus on horse transport, however some general stable duties will also be required when needed.
n
Key Responsibilities
n
n
Transport horses safely between Archibald Racing stables, paddocks, race meetings, barrier trials and other locations as required
n
Safely load and unload horses
n
Complete paddock transport and horse movements as required
n
Coordinate vehicle maintenance, servicing, cleanliness and refuelling
n
Liaise with trainers, forepersons and management regarding horse movements and transport requirements
n
Strap horses at race meetings and barrier trials when required
n
Assist with general reliable duties when required, including:n
n
Hosing and washing horses
n
Rugging
n
Feeding
n
Cleaning yards and stable areas
n
General horse handling
n
n
n
Requirements
n
n
Minimum MR truck licence,



or willingness to obtain one prior to commencement
n
Strong horse-handling experience is essential
n
Reliable, punctual and trustworthy
n
Well presented and professional
n
Comfortable working flexible hours, including some early mornings and weekends
n
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
n
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
n
Strong work ethic and ability to remain calm and organised in a busy racing environment
n
Previous experience transporting thoroughbreds is highly regarded
n
Previous raceday strapping and/or saddling experience is an advantage
n
Experience using Prism is desirable but not essential
n

Eligible employees may also participate in the 2% NSW Stablehand Bonus Scheme
n
Approximately 5 days per week, with some weekend and raceday work required
n
Shared staff accommodation may be available for the right applicant
n
