Precentor (Organist and Choral Director)
Guildford Grammar School is seeking to appoint an exceptional Precentor (Organist and Choral Director) to lead and develop a vibrant choral and liturgical music program at the heart of our School community.
The Chapel of St Mary and St George has been central to School life for over a century, with a rich tradition of congregational singing and Anglican worship.
This role offers a unique opportunity to build on this heritage while shaping an inspiring and inclusive choral program across both the Preparatory and Senior Schools.
Selection Criteria
Working closely with the Chaplain and in conjunction with the Music Department, the Precentor will:
Lead and develop a choral program across the School, including auditioning and training choristers
Direct choirs and oversee music for Chapel services and congregational singing (including "Congo")
Provide organ music for regular worship and special services
Support and develop young organists, including potential organ scholarship pathways
Select music for Chapel in collaboration with the Chaplain
Line manage the Assistant Organist and Vocal Coach
Contribute to choir tours, camps, and performances across the School year
The role also includes a 0.2 FTE teaching allocation (subject to qualifications) and participation in co-curricular programs.
Some evening and weekend work is required to support services and performances.
About You
Proven experience as an organist and choral director
A strong understanding of the Anglican choral tradition, including hymnody and anthems
Experience working with and developing young musicians and choristers
The ability to build an engaging and inclusive choral culture
Excellent organisational and interpersonal skill




A commitment to the ethos and values of an Anglican school
A relevant music qualification and eligibility for TRBWA registration (where teaching is included) are essential.
