5+ years hands-on cloud experience across MS Azure services (App Services, Functions, Logic Apps, SQL, Service Bus, API Management, DevOps, Entra ID, Key Vault, Monitor) — this is the core of the gig.

Picture this: You're embedded with a high-performing CIO Group inside a major federal department, helping shape and deliver cloud-based ICT projects that touch Australian businesses and industries nationwide. We're talking MS Azure, M365, DevOps pipelines, CI/CD, identity management, and integrations with platforms like Dynamics 365 CRM - the full stack. The role is remote-considered (case-by-case with your supervising manager), so whether you're based in TAS, VIC, or NSW, you can throw your hat in the ring.

This is a 12-month contract (up to 2 x 12-month extensions — hello, 3-year runway!) at an EL1-equivalent seniority level, kicking off around 19 October ****.

What you'll be doing:
n
n
Designing enterprise-level Azure and M365 cloud platform architectures
n
Developing high-level solution architectures and detailed guidance for cloud engineers
n
Providing impact analysis and technical direction across project and operational work
n
Championing whole-of-government standards, DTA Digital Service Standard, and EA principles (re-use before buy/build, configure over customise)
n
Collaborating with cross-functional Agile teams — BAs, scrum masters, developers, enterprise architects, testers, and business owners
n
Driving platform automation, CI/CD, and IaC practices via Azure DevOps
n
Being a strategic leader, mentor, and influencer — not just a hands-on builder
n
n

Cloud experience:

Azure DevOps for code development, management,



repositories, Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD deployments

Integrating cloud-based systems with third-party systems, including Microsoft Dynamics 365 CRM

Azure networking, security and identity management capabilities including Virtual Networks, Private Endpoints and Role Based Access Control
n
Ability to work with geographically dispersed teams
n
Ability to work with technical and non-technical staff at all levels
n
Ability to collaborate and mentor team members to promote team harmony

Agile:
n

Experience working with Agile Multi-disciplinary teams to deliver secure, user friendly and reliable solutions that meet stakeholder, citizen, and business expectations

Ability to pragmatically change direction and scope as current information is discovered and challenges or opportunities present themselves

Technical Skills: Demonstrated experience 5yrs+ implementing and managing cloud systems and technologies. The Cloud Architect/Engineer will:
n

Liaise with cross-functional teams to develop and manage enterprise and application-level architectures for MS-Azure
n
Provide impact analysis and technical guidance in design and development of project work aligned with WoG Standards
n
n
Demonstrated track record of technical leadership across project and operational tasks
n
Demonstrated experience and understanding of cloud-based technologies and architectures
n
Demonstrated experience in application and integration, or infrastructure platform architecture
n
Minimum 3 years' experience designing and documenting architectures for large, complex enterprise systems. Experience with AWS and/or GCP is desirable but not essential.
