The Role & Responsibilities
n
Position Purpose
n
The Pre-Production Engineer is a full-time, critical role, responsible for converting approved sales concepts into accurate, production-ready documentation.
n
This includes:
n
n
3D CAD modelling of vehicle fit-outs and components
n
Creation of detailed shop drawings
n
Bill of Materials (BOM) development, incorporating both sheet metal componentry and fixings/fasteners.
n
Assembly instructions and fitting SOPs
n
Ensuring all documentation enables efficient, error-free production
n
n
This significant role exists to eliminate ambiguity before builds,



help the production process run smoothly and ensuring we deliver exceptional quality fit-outs to our customers.

Key Responsibilities
n
n
Develop accurate 3D CAD models of vehicle fit-outs and components
n
Ensure compliance with engineering standards and vehicle constraints
n
Validate clearances, weight distribution and mounting integrity
n
Liaise with Sales and Estimating to refine design intent
n
n
2. Bill of Materials (BOM) Creation
n
n
Generate complete and accurate BOMs for every build
n
Ensure part codes, quantities and revisions are correct
n
Align BOMs with procurement and ERP systems, including ensuring correct stock code nomenclature is used.
n
Standardise components where possible to reduce complexity
n
n
3. Shop Drawings & Assembly Documentation
n
n
Produce fabrication drawings with correct tolerances
n
Develop step-by-step assembly instructions for fitting team as required.
n
Define tooling, hardware and consumables required
n
Ensure drawings are version controlled
n
n
4. Production Readiness & Handover
n
n
Confirm kit completeness prior to release
n
Support first-article builds
n
Resolve design-related production issues
n




Identify opportunities for standardisation and modularisation
n
Improve repeatability of builds
n
Assist in prototype development and new product introduction

Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or similar

Experience in sheet metal fabrication and assembly design
n
Experience creating BOMs and production documentation

Experience in automotive fit-outs or vehicle modification
n
Knowledge of Australian vehicle compliance standards
n
Experience working in a production environment
n
3+ years experience in CAD-based product or fit-out design
n
Exposure to ERP systems
n

Remuneration
n
$70,000 - $80,000 plus superannuation based on experience.
