Yard Foreman / Yard Supervisor – Scrap Metal Recycling

Inner City Metals is looking for an experienced Yard Operations Manager to take ownership of our busy scrap metal processing operation.
This is a genuine management position for someone who enjoys running a fast-moving industrial environment and taking responsibility for getting results.
You'll be responsible for the people, production, machinery and daily flow of the yard.
We're looking for someone who doesn't wait for problems to become emergencies.
You see what's coming, make a plan and get the team moving.
What you'll own
Leading and managing the yard team.
Daily staff allocation and rostering.
Managing staff hours and overtime.
Managing performance and accountability.
Baler and processing production.
Incoming and outgoing material.
Truck movements and turnaround.
Yard and traffic flow.
Material stacking and storage.
Material grading and deductions.
Yard organisation and cleanliness.
Machinery availability.
Breakdown management.
Preventative maintenance.
Coordination of servicing and repairs.
Communication with Transport and Office.
Daily operational planning.
Production reporting and KPIs.
Safety within the yard.
What we're looking for
You'll ideally have experience managing a team in a busy industrial environment.
You might currently be working in:




Scrap metal or recycling.
Waste.
Manufacturing.
Steel.
Quarrying.
Construction materials.
Heavy industry.
Logistics.
Scrap metal experience is an advantage, but it isn't essential.
More important is your ability to lead people and run an operation.
We're looking for someone who:
Takes ownership.
Leads from the front without trying to do everyone's job.
Plans ahead.
Takes preventative maintenance seriously.
Can make decisions under pressure.
Communicates well.
Uses numbers and reporting to understand performance.
Looks for ways to improve an operation.

We're not looking for someone simply to maintain the status quo.
Inner City Metals is building toward a more structured and productive yard operation, including extended processing hours, multiple shifts, better production reporting, improved preventative maintenance and greater use of technology.
We want someone who can help us build that operation.
The prospect
You'll have genuine responsibility and the ability to make an impact on how the yard operates.
You'll work directly with the owner and management team and have the authority required to properly manage your department.
