About the Role:
n
As a Detention Service Officer at the Melbourne Immigration Detention Centre, you'll play a vital role in maintaining a secure, respectful, and supportive environment for detainees and staff. This is a meaningful opportunity for individuals committed to safety, professionalism, and upholding the dignity of others.
n
You'll work as part of a tight‐knit team, rotating across operational posts and responding to priority needs throughout the centre.
n
Key Responsibilities:
n
n
Engage directly with detainees, promoting a culture of safety, respect, and dignity.
n
Conduct searches, security checks, and monitor CCTV and alarm systems.
n
Respond to emergencies and critical incidents with calm and professionalism.
n
Complete headcounts, welfare checks, and detailed incident reporting.
n
Support operational efficiency by assisting in high-priority areas as required.
n
n
What We're Looking For:
n
We're seeking individuals who are already qualified and experienced in Detention or Corrective Services, or Security Operations; and who are committed to making a difference.
n
To be eligible for this role,



you must hold one of the below:
n
n
Cert III
ImmigrationDetention
Operations (CSC***** or later)
n
Cert III Correctional Practice (CSC***** or later)
n
Cert III SecurityOperations (CPP***** or later)
n
n

Paid Training Program:1-week Bridging Course from 16/11/2026 to 20/11/2026 in Melbourne completing full-time, paid training that equips you with everything you need to step confidently into the role.

Attractive Base Rate:Earn a base rate of $***** per hour plus penalties.

About You
n
n
A minimum of two years' experience working in an immigration detention, custodial, or security workplace, with at least part of that experience gained within the past 12 months
n
High levelof integrity and professionalism
n
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
n
Sound judgment and the ability to stay calm under pressure
n
Competency in conflict resolution and de-escalation techniques
n
Basic computer literacy andaccuratereport writing skills
n
Full working rights in Australia
n
Ability to pass pre-employment checks including an Australian Federal Police Check and Medical Assessment with a Fitness test and Drug & Alcohol screen
n
Ability to commence employment on 16th November ****
