We're working with an established Australian organisation that is investing heavily in its data and technology capabilities and is looking for a Senior Data Architect.

The role will suit someone who is equally comfortable working at a technical level and engaging with stakeholders to understand how data is created, managed and consumed across a business.

The Role
n
You'll play a key role in improving the organisation's understanding and management of its data environment.
n
Working alongside engineering, technology, product and business stakeholders, you'll investigate existing data structures and processes, identify opportunities for improvement and establish practical architecture and documentation standards.
n
You'll be hands‐on and involved in both technical discovery and solution design, with the opportunity to influence how data is managed and utilised across the organisation.

Key responsibilities

Analyse and assess existing data environments, structures and relationships.
n
Develop and maintain logical and physical data models.
n
Establish clear documentation around key data assets and processes.
n
Investigate data flows and dependencies across technology platforms.
n
Support data quality, governance and data management initiatives.
n
Identify opportunities to improve data consistency, accessibility and reliability.
n
Work with technical teams to understand and document existing solutions.
n
Provide guidance around database and data platform architecture.
n
Develop technical documentation, standards and supporting artefacts.

Assist with data profiling, analysis and reconciliation activities.
n
Contribute to improvements across database performance, integration and data management.
n
Work collaboratively with engineering, product, technology and business stakeholders.
n
Help establish sustainable practices that improve the organisation's long-term data capability.

About You
n
We're looking for a hands‐on Senior Data Architect who can operate comfortably between architecture, databases, engineering and business requirements.
n
You'll ideally have:
n
n
Significant experience in Data Architecture, Database Architecture, Data Engineering or a related discipline.
n
Strong experience working with relational databases.
n
Excellent SQL and database analysis skills.
n
Strong understanding of data modelling and database design.
n
Experience analysing complex data environments and identifying relationships and dependencies.
n
Experience with data governance, data quality and data management principles.
n
The ability to translate technical concepts into clear documentation.
n
Strong analytical and problem‐solving skills.
n
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
n
A structured and methodical approach to technical discovery.
n
The ability to work independently and take ownership of outcomes.
n
n
Technical experience
n
n
Experience with MySQL and AWS/Aurora will be highly regarded.
n
Exposure to cloud data platforms, NoSQL databases, APIs, event‐driven architectures, reporting environments and modern data engineering technologies would also be advantageous.
n
Experience working across application and database environments, including understanding how data is generated, transformed and consumed, will be particularly valuable.
