At Randstad Defence, we're proud to be partnering with Electro Optic Systems (EOS) – a leading force in the design, development, and manufacturing of advanced systems – currently seeking a Senior Laser Scientist to join their team in Canberra.

About the role:
n
The position is for a Senior Laser Scientist within the EOS Space Systems Research & Development (R&D;) team. A successful candidate is expected to undertake laser design, assembly, alignment, testing and maintenance. Also, writing technical documentation and reporting is also part of the routine.
n
Key Responsibilities:
n
n
Assist with the development of current laser subsystems, primarily high energy lasers for ground-to-space applications. Includes laser design, component specification, assembly, optical alignment, and optimisation.
n
Work alongside other engineering disciplines and communicate system requirements.
n
Contribute to the instrumentation of cutting-edge opto-electronics subsystems.
n
Combine novel technologies or concepts to support the innovation and development of EOS IP.
n
Support the Engineering teams and communicate activity and progress to the respective discipline manager and VPs.
n
Undertake and document investigative experiments to inform the company's research activities.
n




Actively teach other staff skills and concepts in areas of proficiency to assist the general improvement of knowledge and capability within the group.

Qualifications and Experience:
n
n
Minimum 5 years' experience with bulk solid-state or fibre laser systems,
n
Experience with the alignment and operation of Class 4 lasers, pulsed and CW
n
Experience with high power laser systems
n
Excellent documentation and communication skills,
n
Experience with Matlab or a programming language (Python, C++).
n
Experience with laser resonator modelling software,
n
Must be able to work within the AUKUS framework.
n
Candidates must be Australian Citizens or have Permanent Working Rights and be eligible to obtain and maintain an Australian Government security clearance
n
Experience with multi-kW laser systems
n
Experience combining multiple technical disciplines, e.g. electronics and mechanics, mathematics and software, opto-electronics etc.,
n
Experience with ISO**** quality systems,
n
Experience with optical design software Zemax
n
