Continued growth has created an opportunity for a Junior Product Development Engineer to join their established Engineering team.

This role is aimed at someone early in their engineering career who has around 6-12 months' practical engineering experience and is looking for an setting where they can rapidly develop their technical and commercial skills.

You don't need to know everything yet.

What matters is that you're technically capable, commercially switched on, curious, willing to learn and have the engineering and business smarts to understand why a product needs to work not only technically, but commercially.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Engineering Team Leader, you'll work alongside experienced engineers on the development of new products and improvements to the company's existing product range.

You'll gain exposure to the complete product development lifecycle, including concept development, CAD design, prototyping, testing, compliance, manufacturing and eventual commercial release.

Rather than being restricted to one small part of the engineering process, you'll have the opportunity to see how engineering decisions affect manufacturing, suppliers, product cost, customers and the wider commercial success of a product.

Responsibilities

As part of the Engineering team, you will:

- Assist with the research, design and development of new products.




- Support senior engineers through the product development process from initial concept through to commercialisation.
- Produce and modify components and assemblies using SolidWorks.
- Prepare engineering drawings and assist with maintaining Bills of Materials (BOMs).
- Build and assess prototypes and undertake hands-on product testing.
- Assist with product validation, performance testing and compliance activities.
- Work with local and international suppliers and manufacturers.
- Investigate engineering problems and contribute ideas and potential solutions.
- Support improvements to existing products including quality, manufacturability, functionality and cost.
- Assist with engineering documentation and product development records.
- Work with engineering, manufacturing, suppliers and commercial teams to understand how products progress from an idea to a commercially successful product.
- Take increasing responsibility for engineering tasks and projects as your experience develops.

Selection Criteria

We're not looking for someone with five years' experience.





We're looking for someone early in their career who has strong engineering fundamentals, good commercial instincts and plenty of potential.

Ideally you will possess:

- Degree qualifications in Mechatronic, Mechanical or a closely related Engineering discipline.
- Approximately 6-12 months' engineering experience within product development, manufacturing, design or a related environment.
- Exposure to SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD software.
- A good understanding of mechanical, electrical or mechatronic engineering principles.
- Some practical exposure to prototyping, testing, manufacturing or product development.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
- The ability to look beyond the technical answer and understand commercial considerations such as cost, manufacturability, reliability and customer requirements.
- Good communication skills and the confidence to ask questions, contribute ideas and work collaboratively with experienced engineers.
- A genuine desire to learn and build a career in product development.

The Person

The person we're looking for will be smart, curious and commercially aware.

You'll probably be the type of engineer who wants to understand why something has been designed a particular way, rather than simply accepting the drawing in front of you.

You'll enjoy pulling products apart, solving problems, testing ideas and working out how things can be made better.

Just as importantly, you'll understand that successful engineering is about more than producing the technically perfect solution. Products also need to be manufacturable, cost-effective, reliable and commercially successful.
